Windows 8 Pro license key to cost just €59.99?

A new leaked screenshot of Windows 8 perhaps prematurely reveals the digital download cost of Windows 8 Pro. Revealed by Deskmodder, a screenshot depicting a page that allows you purchase a Windows 8 Pro product key lists a price of €59.99, with a further €14.99 if you wish to purchase a physical DVD on top of that.

Converting these prices to US dollars you get roughly $75 for the license, which could suggest a $69.99 standard price in standard pricing conventions, plus around US$20 for shipping out a Windows 8 DVD to you.

We already know that Microsoft will be offering Windows 8 Pro upgrades for just $39.99 until January 2013, that will allow you to upgrade any version of Windows as far back as Windows XP provided you have a previous valid license. ~$75 for the full version would be very cheap considering Windows 7 Ultimate cost $319.99; however we do know Microsoft is aiming to lower the barrier of entry at this stage to sell the OS.

This price could just be a promotional deal like with the upgrade, or it could be outright false as Microsoft haven't as yet made an official announcement, so we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm still getting used to the whole Metro startup screen, but aside from that, I do thoroughly enjoy it. It is a bit snappier overall than my Windows 7 OEM install, and the colors are soft, and pleasing. Overall usage is also pretty much the same as 7, with a few adjustments made here and there...

Microsoft should allow people to purchase licences now. There simply is no excuse for making people wait for months while those who choose to pirate it can use it now.

Couldn't agree more!

after a bit of hunting around i found out the UK prices

Pro key £49.99
DVD Media £11.99
Media Center £6.99

Total £68.97

Hurry up and take my money

I mostly liked it before (in previews) and was going to buy one, but what they did with a destop UI in RTM - they ruined it! Now it is dumbed down metro toys with disfigured desktop leftovers. And metro music app - it looks so beautiful on 24' in full HD.

£47 and £12 extra for the dvd. So ~£60 for the dvd, that's good assuming it isn't an oem tied to your components. Wouldn't be that much reason to pirate it at that price. I bought a legit win7 pro for around £60/80 on pre-order when that came out, can't remember which price i paid.

The frigging bootcamp 4.0 drivers work but cause system hangs, so annoying! I wish Apple could roll out some decent drivers before GA

I checked and it's £49.99, which is fair. It's cheaper than the EU version and you have to consider that US prices typically don't include tax.

They must have discounted it so much because they completely hamstrung the entire operating system into a steaming pile of crap by removing a single UI element... the Start Button.

Do we know if you can upgrade from Win 7 Pro to Win 8 Home with the upgrade edition?

Or from Win 7 Home to Win 8 Pro?

Yes..

People pirate 99 cent apps, some people are just scum, that is all

What's even scummier is putting restrictive DRM on a $0.99 app. If I reboot my tablet in an area without wifi, I'm unable to play some games until they are reactivated. Talk about total bullcrap.

Pro for under $100 is a deal IMO, I'll wait for official pricing on the full system builder versions though but this could be big.

last time i checked that price was for an upgrade. PC users can build a computer and buy a copy of windows for €60, that's way cheaper than an apple computer.

There wasn't a better all-in-one desktop computer available at the time for less money... So, nope. Nice try though.

You get what you pay for.

That's why Microsoft heavily reduced Windows 8's price. Thanks for the insight!

I will get the 40€ upgrade for my Media Center, which is still running on Vista.
My desktop with 7... Well, still undecided. Probably just stick to 7 for now.

Whichever option is one where, if at all, I will get it through Dreamspark. Since 2006 I haven't paid a penny for Microsoft software and I intend to continue that way

It begins to make more sense once you realize that you are really just paying for Windows 7 Service Pack 2. You get the GUI formally known as Metro for free when you purchase SP2.

Deal no?

Haters gonna hate (and be completely wrong at the same time)

Can there be an option on the survey for "I get it free anyway" as I suspect the majority of readers will fall into this category!

It shows the equivalent to US$ 800,00 for me, when I try to buy it from Brazil (leaked pro)
I'm used to that as Brazil is always f***** up regarding MS prices.

With all the negitve feedback I have seen on Windows 8 Microsoft may just have to give Windows 8 away for Free!

As most people will not even want to buy it.

Most people will get it the way they usually get Windows - with a new computer

I once got a 1 year trial of Windows Vista Ultimate + Windows Server 2008 with a book, for completing a survey

I completely disagree with this statement. Every person I've showed my notebook to with Release Preview can't wait for it. I for one love it. I can't wait for launch.

Well, and out of all the people I know who tried Win8, only one liked Windows 8. All the others agree that Metro (well, Ex-Metro) is not suitable for desktop usage and prefer to keep Win7.

"Most people" are not the vocal minority on the internet making a fuss. Windows 8 will make it's mark on new devices, tablets, ultrabooks with touch screens, convertibles etc.

Nobody forces you to use Metro in Windows 8, yet you can upgrade and get all the features that comes with Windows 8 and that aren't related to Metro (and trust me, there are many of them).

Come on one of you RTM pirates take one for the team and try purchasing a key. If anyone does this please report back for science.

I've read that the people who have tried it can't complete the process (PayPal). Everyone else is too scared to use a valid cc

Apparently KMS activation has leaked and many people on the interwebs are confirming activated Windows Pro/WMC/Ent

The key provided when you do this does not work.....yet.

well as of within the past 2hrs pirates have managed to get a kms server up and all pirated copies can now be activated and people have already done so. So lets hope MS allows people to legally activate their software.

Can you PM me a link to the artical/crack? I'm interested in customizing my VM

That's fine! I just want to test out the new features and then buy it in August.

If you're smart enough to have downloaded the RTM in the first place, chances are you're smart enough to know not to attempt to purchase it just yet
