Windows Live Messenger for Zune HD released

Microsoft has released Windows Live Messenger for its Zune HD device.

The application, a full year after the Zune HD was released, includes the ability to check out social updates from your friends. Shared items from Facebook, Flickr or MySpace are displayed within the application. You can also chat to Facebook friends using the app. Messenger for Zune HD also displays what you're listening to as your status message.

The new Messenger comes at a time when Windows Phone 7 is on the brink of release. The app hints at the functionality we might come to see in the Messenger for Windows Phone 7 application which was recently confirmed. Microsoft also released 3 new games for the Zune HD: WordMonger, Castles and Cannons, Dr. Optics.

The App sounds like **** but most of you are gushing all over it, what is that about?

Windows Live Messenger? It waas also released on the iPhone, and it's a really good chat application that includes Facebook chat, an important feature for most people.

Yes, Windows Live Messenger on the Zune HD. It has a tiny keyboard, it crashes, there is no horizontal option. Seriously it sounds like crap.

It does crash when you try looking at pictures. The keyboard also is practically unusable, like where's the predictive keyboard feature, it lets you make all sorts of mistakes...

I can't wait for the new Zune HD that'll use Windows Phone 7. I'm a bit tired of how messed up they made this Zune HD firmware...

I keep seeying more games and apps for the Zune HD. They might be a side effect of the development done for the WP7, where basically they might only need to recompile for Zune, or it might indicate that MS plans to go all the way with Zune, not only on the phones but with the players, now internationally.

you'd think so, but amazingly these apps are all running in xna, as zune hd does not have a native implementation of silverlight. kudos to them for actually writing proper apps in silverlight, though its easy to notice the performance cost this incurs.

Yay!!!

Seems like Microsoft has not forgotten Zune HD users... This is full of WIN!!!

Thumbs up for Microsoft...

The ZHD now has a decent collection of games and apps. Believe it or not, but I've downloaded more apps/games for my ZHD than for my Android phone.

Random much? :L

Stuck up much? I'm sure Microsoft apologizes for not notifying you of this.

On topic, I like this app...but I just can't stand the tiny keyboard. I can understand why they put these apps off. If the screen was as big as a Windows Phone 7 device then yeah it would rock your world. But damn it's small...

I really can't wait for a Zune HD Windows Phone 7 device!

Does it work in landscape?

Apparently it doesn't

And it doesn't have predictive and auto correcting text! I thought all the on-screen keyboards in Zune did. The Facebook app does.

I know its part of the whole metro ui, but there seems to be almost too much stuff cut off.

I only see one thing, the title. Also if menu has a lot of items, the last item displayed may be cut off, but you can move it over.

Haha, finally, shame it crashes everytime I click on the photos tab, aside from that its a nice app, also a few new games released today too...
