Windows Phone 7 adverts hit the web

Microsoft has just released a glimpse into what some of its new advertisement will look like and what message Microsoft is looking to push. It appears that Microsoft will be running with the "Its time for a phone, to save us from our phones" and has put together two different advertisments to show off this new campaign.

The videos (posted below) do not show much about the actual platform but are to build hype for future advertisments. They also show off casual users as well as business users in several different situations. The overall theme is that your current phone is overwhelming and not streamlined enough which makes it a disturbance to your day rather than an aid to get things done.

I dunno, the tag line doesn't really do it for me personally. Knowing all I know about this OS and everything I think this undercuts it a good deal.

These adverts make no sense. They want people to stop using phones by .... buying and using another phone?

Windows Phone 7 does not let you find information any faster than the iPhone or an Android powered phone. If you want movie tickets, latest sports data, make a twitter post etc it takes the same amount of time. Tap the phone, unlock, open the app for that, type in what you want etc.

Advert failuer, completely.

There are a few cases where the live tiles could remove the need to actually start the app, but in general you are correct.

I also found the adverts a little odd. The first thought that went through my mind was that they were all using Windows Phones which are so awesome that they couldn't keep their eyes off of them. Then it turned out to be a bad thing that they were enthralled with their cell phones...

Yeah, it's really an odd message...

*facepalm*

The message, because everyone seems to be failing to get it, is as follows:

You're spending all of your time on your phone because so much interaction is required to do what is ultimately only a few tasks.

Here, let's simplify that for you, so you can get just as much done, in much less time, and get back to your day.

OMG that was so difficult for me to figure out.

The issue isn't that it's hard to understand, the issue is that for the first 50 seconds of a 60 second ad the apparent message is the opposite of the actual message they are trying to get across.

If someone just caught a piece of the ad on TV they might come away thinking the opposite of what the creators intended...

Still looks like a "My first phone" from Tonka Toys. Who the hell designed the GUI on it?

in this day, People are not going to go to this for this main reason. people are wanting nice smooth sexy GUI's for their phone. not some square clunky blocks. this just shows Microsoft is falling behind on what people are wanting.

Except that the blocks are all smoothly animated. And great how you seem to know so much about smooth sexy guis for phones right? What's the iPhone homescreen like? Oh a bunch of blocks with a background (which it didn't have until very recently). What's the default Android home screen like? A background with a bunch of icons (unless you have HTC sense or another homescreen mod)

I much prefer the simple but useful tiles, no need for super colourful icons when you want to just read something off your main page quickly.

Erm... they do it with Apple all the time, at least this is actually kind of a big deal, unlike most of the hype surrounding Apple.

This is normal.

Have you ever read Engadget? Every single Apple news is breaking to them, and during the WWDC ... all of the front page article was Apple's.

At this rate, soon you'll be the only one keeping your Nokia.

It would have been more realistic if you heard him yell "Oh F&%*" but it was good!
