Windows Phone 8.1 name appears on Windows Phone store as announcement draws near

Microsoft has yet to formally announce the Windows Phone 8.1 update but the branding has already started to appear in app descriptions on the Windows Phone store today.

The BUILD 2014 conference will begin later today in San Francisco and the next update to Windows Phone is expected to be a major point of focus for the consumers and developers alike. Although, Microsoft has not yet announced the update, various applications on the Windows Phone Store now show "Works with Windows Phone 8.1" in addition to Windows Phone 8. The listed screen resolutions and other specifications are still the same as the previous version.

Microsoft previously pulled all of the Windows Phone 8.1 branding from its websites after it made a brief appearance last month. Now, however, it seems the company does not mind that the name is popping up as the reveal draws near.

Nokia is holding a press conference of its own during BUILD, which starts at 8.30 AM PDT and is expected to reveal one of the first Windows Phone 8.1 handsets, the Lumia 630. It will be interesting to see what Microsoft has up its sleeve as most of the information such as release dates and features of the Windows Phone 8.1 update has already leaked.

From the leaked SDK of 8.1 the OS supports a lower res than 480x800 and also higher than 1080p, the leaked emulator supports up to 1440x2560. Would be a good res for the bigger 6" phablets to use for example.

Good - I was struggling to see how Full HD was usable @ 6".

What? You think 367 PPI is not enough?

Oh God, really Neowin? You've outdone yourselves this time, running almost a month old piece of news. What rock was the author living under? This is just embarrassing.

"Works with Windows Phone 8.1" is different to a link showing up on the Windows Phone website, but whatevs! :p
Again, the store is mentioning this for every Windows Phone 8 app for over a month now. It has been there a while.... Old news.

i haven't been this excited for a build conference in some time.
windows phone 8.1, windows 8 update, lumias unveiling, more news on the marriage of the two windows stores, and hopefully, a brief taste of what's coming with windows 9.
