Windows Server 2012 Release Candidate download available

Microsoft has just gone live with the download links for Windows Server 2012 release candidate, the OS comes in two flavors, 64 bit ISO and VHD. This is the first Windows release candidate released today and we expect to see Windows 8 RC drop later this afternoon.

The ISO (available at the link below) comes in several languages Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish and the VHD comes in English only.

Microsoft states this about the next server release:

The next release of Windows Server, Windows Server 2012, will offer businesses and hosting providers a scalable, dynamic, and multitenant-aware, cloud-optimized infrastructure. It securely connects across premises and helps IT Professionals to respond to business needs faster and more efficiently.

As always, with any pre-release software, install at your own risk. The software is a preview of what the final version will offer but is not intended to replace your current OS on any production machine.

Are they serious with the Metro and mouse gestures? I was curious what they were going to do with the UI but I figured it would be some minimal, classic windows looking thing, not Metro... on Windows Server ... Metro - can't get past this part - admins that use GUI will scream bloody murder - 99% of their users don't like waving their mice around their desks and clicking 5 times to shut down a VM... That's another thing - how much have they used this inside a VM or via Remote Desktop (like it's being used 99% of the time)... Metro and Mouse Gestures ... in Windows Server ... shoot me now, please!!!

As the 1 percent crowd according to you, I could care less. You barely use a server for more than a few minutes. Besides, I welcome the added features of managing other servers plus the better task manager graphs

Only the datacenter version available? No Enterprise?

Datacenter has all options that Enterprise has, plus more..

Only the ISO download works, the VHD link says File Not Found. Interesting to see what new they have. Never really got a chance to try the Server 8 Beta...

meh, just give me IE10 RC for Win 7 already.

The fact that I can finally ctrl+a inside the address bar must be the biggest improvement I've found so far.

It's been like that since IE8.

Seems to work on IE9 on Windows 7

That's working for a while.

This is really weird. Definitely didn't work for me on IE9 on Windows 7, otherwise I wouldn't be so frustrated about it.

Downloading =] Cant wait to see whats new from the server build, Havnt heard much news on it. All about the client lately!
