Windows Update V3 Beta to close on June 30th

Thanks Anonymous who sent me the letter he received from Microsoft regarding the closing of Windows Update v3 Beta.

This confidential letter is to inform you that the Windows Update V3 Beta Program is ending and https://beta.windowsupdate.com site will be closed on June 30, 2002. We will have one more content refresh of the v3 site in June, and that will be the last refresh for the site.

By the end of June 2002, the current Windows Update live and beta sites (V4) will support Windows XP and Windows 2000. Very soon thereafter, these two sites will support Windows 98 and Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me) platforms.

The Windows Update V3 Beta Program was established in 1998, and is one of the longest-running and most successful beta programs in Microsoft history. Some of you have been working with us for many years. You have been major contributors to the success of Windows Update - from content and site testing to the testing of various versions of Windows products. You have helped Microsoft in many ways and we value your contribution over the past four-plus years.

It goes onto say that all testers are automatically moved over to the V4 beta test (currently only available to XP)
