Wintek to supply touch panels for Apple netbook

According to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report, Wintek will be supplying Apple computers touch panels for their new line up of netbooks.

The actual use of the panels was not mentioned but many speculations are for Apple's Netbook to help compete with the latest trend of ultra portable computers. No exact shipment schedule was released but shipments are likely to begin in the second half of this year.

Wintek also supplys touch panels for other hand held devices such as PDA's, phones, camcorders and cameras. The Taiwan based company reported NT$1.81 billion ($52 US million) in February of this year, showing a promising record of profit with huge demand for touch panels in 2008 and a continuing trend for this year.

As no solid information has been released about Apple's upcoming touch-screen netbooks, rumors speculate that information about the new product(s) will be seen around the third quarter of this year, according to Commercial Times and DigiTimes.
