WP7 now on sale in the US

Microsoft has finally launched its highly anticipated OS, WP7 in the United States. The platform is launching on AT&T and T-Mobile, AT&T is offering up three devices for $199.99. The HTC HD7, HTC Surround, and the Samsung Focus are all up for grabs for committing to be an indentured servant (contract) for 2 years; T-Mobile is also offering the HD7 for $199.99 on a two year commitment as well.

It's not known yet how well the launch is going at AT&T and T-Mobile, there is little information available if lines formed in anticipation for the launch or if users are finding stores short on supply.

As Windows Phone 7 launches across the world, starting in New Zealand with the first phone sold in the world, followed by the Australia, Europe and the United States, Microsoft is going head on into an intense phone platform battle, where the company has been lagging behind for many years.

I was out looking at the Focus today ... gorgeous screen, great performance. Not quite able to sign up yet, but I really-really want one of these.

I bought a HD7 today; so far I like it:

The phone is quick; granted I do not have many pictures loaded yet, still more than 800 contacts, One Note docs etc.

I had trouble to install the Exchange certificate on the phone; T-mobile reps were useless. Finally I did it emailing to myself, using MSN, the cert. Not the most elegant solution.....

It seems that the only way to "wake up" the phone is pushing the button on the top, taping the screen does not seem to be enabled.

Another thing I really dislike is that it seems impossible to list only your email contacts; all the people in my Messenger account are listed and deleting them from the phone..... delte them from Messenger too. More options please!!!

Instruction manual is pathetic to say the least; t is a completely new OS, more info are needed. Not sure if it is a T Mobile or HTC issue but it is inadequate.

Personally I always liked the GUI concept and now that I am using it..... I still do. Granted, people coming from WM 6.5 will have to adjust to click arrows instead of swiping on the screen but I do not feel it as annoying or more cumbersome; it is just a different paradigm.

I hope that MS will come out with an update version of WMDC; for example the fact that in order to copy pictures to the phone I have to open Zune, select the pictures, drag them etc. is not as linear as before when the phone was just listed under Windows Explorer and the folder were exposed.

To conclude: I think I will keep it although I need more time before, eventually, feeling ready to retire my HD2.

Wonder if AT&T is going to come out with the Touch Pro 3 and call it the AT&T Tilt 3 with Windows Phone 7? The phones that they have now representing Windows Phone 7 look like garbage. I will say the T-mobile HD7 looks way better out of the 5 so far.

I dont think I would have a problem using AT&T service if I were to get this phone ... but T-Mobile? ehh. I dunno...

I bought mine today (Focus) from att store. They had 1 demo unit (focus) and 2 to sell and 1 was to me. They only have 1 left. I love it so far. Good thing I prepared for all of this and already have my contacts on windows live so after I logged in all my contacts were immediately there.

I picked mine up the other day at Walmart. They don't listen to when they can sell them - they just sell them $148.88 for 2 year contract. $200 to break it which means $350.00 for a no contract phone instead of the $599.00 or $529.99 at wirefly If I wanted to go down that path that is.

So far I like the phone. Kind got spoiled on the apps that I am using so I find myself searching for some of them on the WP7 They will come and I still have my other phones. Battery life is pretty decent. I wish GV MOBILE plus or GOOGLE VOICE would finish up their app. The GOVOICE is too slow and clunky and doesn't function well. Not a big deal to waste $2.99 for an app that doesn't work. Developer will get an email on that

Waiting on the Dell Venue Pro as well.

Forgot to mention - I picked up the HD7 from them. Very slick.
I liked the Focus as its very close to my Samsung Fascinate. I just liked the real estate on the HD7 a little more than the better screen. Not a big fan of the PenTile dots on smaller fonts.

Why didn't AT&T get the HD7... What is this "Surround" BS? I don't want some speaker sliding out from the side.

i was just at a store and tried out both the Focus and the Surround. the Surround doesn't feel heavy or bloated despite the speaker - it's still much lighter than my current phone. But the Focus is just hands-down beautiful & feather-weight.

my local store had this delivered: 1x Surround for display - 1x Focus for display and 1x Surround for sale. They're now trying to find one Focus to sell to me.

Can't wait till it's available on contract here in The Netherlands. But I might also wait so I can change provider from the crappy T-Mobile (very poor reception) to KPN or Vodafone.

I hope it does not take Dell much long to ready the Venue Pro. I really need to check out that device before I make my decision.

I preordered the dell today online, but I'm in the EU, doesn't come into the shop till the 16th or so, but I'll probably get it few days after that if I'm lucky.

Wow, come back and tell us how you like it.

Amazon has the HTC Surround for 149.99. Anyone know if any 3rd party is offering the Samsung for 149? Amazon Wireless shows it on pre-order/out of stock. I want the samsung phone, but honestly i wouldn't complain about the HTC

The HD7 is only available on TMobile not AT&T... just thought i'll clarify that...

any chance of this HD7 being able to be a top up phone? i'll most likely use data on wifi hot spots rather than in plan. i tend to run into wifi all the time while i'm on the field (working at many different spots)
