Xbox 360 Elite UK Release Date

The Xbox 360 Elite is set to be released in the UK on the 24th of August 2007, according to the popular online DVD and games store Play.com. The shopping site has also announced the price will be £329.99, equivalent to $671 and 81,921 Japanese Yen at current exchange rates. The news comes just 6 days after the console's release date was announced in Japan as the 11th of October priced at just 47,800 Yen. This equates to a whopping 31,121 Yen price difference between the UK and Japanese versions of the console. I wonder when Britons will stand up to this kind of blatant price rip-off and refuse to buy such over-priced items.

All this PAL and NTSC bull**** needs to be wiped out for good, it's the only thing stopping us from importing consoles.

I can't wait until region modification is possible on all kernals.

When the **** is there going to be an Australian release date for this thing? Or will I have to import from the UK? (unless there AC power outlets are different)

I'd rather UK get ripped off so us in North America can get cheap consoles!!! Weee! Gouge Europe!

You mug.

Anyway, I shall be getting one of these, then modding my original 360.

Did I imagine it or was this actually announced by Microsoft during the E3 press conference? I remember looking on play.com to see if they updated their listing with the announced date.

WTF!!! I just converted the prices of the Elite from America and Japan, and I am gobsmacked at how much Microsoft are ripping us off by this time round. In America, it will cost $479.99, which is £235. In Japan, the price is as it was said in the article, 47,800 Yen, but guess how much that is in pounds: £192!!!!!!

You're blaming trade terrifs, import costs and logistic costs on microsoft? should blame your own country on the terrifs part... and the crappy exchange rate... which MS has no control over

We should be blaming your country for the poor exchange rate...

Play.com is one of the cheapest DVD and software sites in the UK, but their release dates are not the most accurate you'll find.

Price isn't as high as I thought it'd be, but still pretty steep.

As someone that's contemplating getting a 360 soon, I was seriously considering the elite, now I'm not so sure.
If it was £300, then I'd be well more inclined for it.

Man, don't bother with the elite; so what about the HDMI port. Thats the only thing of tangible difference considering the 120GB HDD can be purchased separately for the core/premium afaik. Go for a premium with a bundle of games. I went for a 360 with Gears of War, crackdown, PGR3 and arcade plus two controllers for £390 from play a couple of months back; Superior value to that of the elite particularly when you consider that the elite doesn't even come with any games and only one controller at this moment in time.

I wonder how overpriced that will be?

Yeah it will be. I'm sure I saw a thing on the net that guides you through the process of putting using your own, much cheaper to buy HDD without having to be ripped off by MS by buying their unit. Though you can only have a max partition size of 120GB I believe.

We have no choice but to pay these prices, its either pay them or go without, and its not just Microsoft, all companies do it, Sony and Nintendo included. They claim taxes etc, but its hardly that, we pay nearly double for most things here compared to their American and Asian counterparts

no, thats around 40% more expensive than japan, not 17.5%!!! blatent rip off, make it £299.99 and premium - £249.99. no date for 65nm, they wont tell us either we will have to wait until photos come out showing the new chip, then wait till all the older stock has been sold and order an elite 1 month after first photos this way would give you the best chance of getting a 65nm version.

wish they put it on the box with a sticker saying 65nm!

Can I have some of whatever it is you're smoking?

the UK people earn much more than other countries- its only the 17.5% tax that we pay on everything that makes an overkill price tag...
