Xbox 360 Essentials Pack coming in October

Hot on the heels of announcing a price drop for the Kinect for Xbox 360, Microsoft has also revealed plans to offer a different kind of hardware bundle for the Xbox 360 console.

The official Xbox.com web site has posted word that Microsoft will start selling the The Xbox 360 Essentials Pack sometime in October. The bundle collects an extra Xbox 360 wireless controller with a TV style remote control and an extra HDMI cable. There will also be a card that's good for three months on the Xbox Live Gold service.

The price of the The Xbox 360 Essentials Pack has been set for $79.99 for the US. Microsoft claims that price is about $55 less than if you bought all of the same items in this bundle separately. However, we wonder if some online retailers might offer discounts on these items that might close the price gap a bit.

This bundle is clearly made for the holiday gift giving crowd who might know a gamer who already owns an Xbox 360 but might appreciate the kinds of items that are offered in the The Xbox 360 Essentials Pack. There's no word on if this bundle will be sold in other countries.

80 bucks?!
nevermind, i take that back, I forgot this is MICROSOFT, the same ones who sold the silly wireless adaptor for $100

With regards to HDMI cables ... no-one needs to pay anymore than a fiver for a 1m cable.
Anyone willing to pay £30 (or $30) needs their heads read, or just likes wasting money!

If I buy all those items in the UK separately right now, they'd cost me no more than £52.

For example looking at the prices right at this very moment on Amazon UK . . .

Official Wireless Controller (Black) - £24.60
3 months XBox Live Gold subs - £15.00
XBox 360 Media Remote - £10.00
1m HDMI lead - less than £2.00

Total maximum combined price = £51.60

Which is about $15 less than the cost of the Xbox bundle yes (use a currency converter next time), however, trying finding an HDMI cable in BestBuy for under $30 Factor in shipping when buying for amazon and that would narrow the gap a bit as well. In the end you'd be saving about $5 maybe with shipping. It's not the best deal but you're paying for convenience.

Why use a currency converter? If they want to "speak" in pounds so be it. (I don't think the comparison implied one pound = one dollar).

Most of the products I get on amazon have free shipping so that does not reduce the gap. I know a lot of people pay no shipping on Amazon either for most of their purchases.

Only the unaware would make the mistake of buying cables in BestBuy.

Not bad, but not sure this is for me. Would be kind of cool if they bundled this with the existing 360 (console) bundles for an additional cost (and perhaps more discounted)

That is not too bad, not sure I would ever use the remote, I am still rather put off by having to buy another xBox (my launch unit died a while back and i could not be bothered to replace it)

I actually use the remote all the time. I use it and Kinect voice commands to navigate pretty much exclusively.
