Xbox 360 Fall Update on Dec. 4th, Friends of Friends coming!

It was just confirmed that the Fall Dashboard update will be released next Tuesday, December 4th. One of the new features that will be part of the release is 'Friends of Friends.' With this new features, you'll be able to browse the friends list of anyone on your Xbox LIVE friends list and send anyone on your friends list a friends request. We're also adding a 'Friends List' setting in the Dashboard* and on Xbox.com to allow you to control who can see your friends list.

-Everyone (only available to members 18 and older)
-Friends only (available to members 13 and older)
-Blocked (available to all members, and automatic for anyone under the age of 13)

It's important to mention that when the dashboard update is released, the new default setting will be Everyone (assuming you are of age). For those members that not want to share their friend list, we've added a page on Xbox.com that is available today where you can modify this setting as you see fit. If you want to keep your friends list private, you can sign into Xbox.com now at www.xbox.com/fof and change the setting to Blocked (if you so desire.) This gives you a full week to decide which setting you would like for this new feature.

If you want to fully embrace the new feature, you don't need to do a thing except wait for the update next week.

Why are they implementing things nobody is asking for (well, I've never seen anyone ask for it and I read most of the requests on the xbox.com forums) and nothing people are requesting... for all of the following things there are hundreds of requests for in their own forum (dating back to the launch of it 2 years ago):

* 16:10 Support
* DivX/XviD Support
* Custom choice of drive speed(s) to allow for a MUCH quieter XBOX with very few to none lag/glitches from doing so. People with hacked firmwares playing illegally downloaded games can enjoy a quiet 360 yet those of us who keep it legal and actually support ms/game developers don't. (unless you do that annoying clear updates/eject/close/run glitch)

Yet it appears they're going to disappoint, again. I'm not saying this is pointless to everyone, just that the other features mentioned above seem a lot more important.

It may be of interest to some, not any use to me atall, I really want to be able to change my windows live ID linked to gamertag. I am even easier pleased, DIVX would be nice also.

i have no friends, therefore no friends of friends, so personally do not care. the only thing i want with my update is for them to stop tracking xbla trials on my gamertag. i'm easy to please, really i am.

That's what I've always wanted plus ability to delete achievements and games played lists to regain them for fun again.

OMG this feature sucks balls! One thing I want fixed is when you disconnect from the network you have to run the network test program before it will connect again even if you are reconnected, if you know what I'm talking bout.

Can't say I really do know what you're talking about. I've had disconnects for reasons ranging from somebody stepping on the power bar running my router, to busy Live servers, to bomb threats at my ISP's office disconnecting half the city (yes, you read that). The only reason I've ever ran the connection test program is to make sure that my router is still forwarding ports after I've been monkeying with it too much.

You may want to look into grabbing a firmware update for your router or something, because something isn't right with your network equipment; not your XBox.

it's for the parents.... you know, the ones with the money buying it for their 12 year old kids that you hear screaming "noob" and cussing over live every 5 seconds

exactly.... who asked for this? why is microsoft making features that absolutely no one will use (MSN messenger integration)

I use the MSN Mesenger Integration. To be honest I dont have full blown convosations but it helps because my MSN list can see what game I am playing an my RL chummies can come join me if they wish.

I know you can do this with XBL (see what your friends are playing) but not everyone is on XBL at the same time, where as a lot of people are on MSN Messenger quite a bit.

Just my two pence...

For all you retards saying its a stupid feature, Myspace and Facebook have this feature as well, in case you wanted to know. See where MS is going with the 360?
