Xbox 360 top selling console for 25th consecutive month

As they have for over two years now, Microsoft was again on top of the game console sales charts in the US for the month of January 2013. The company announced today that, according to data from the NPD Group, 281,000 units of the Xbox 360 console were sold in the US last month.

Microsoft added that the total number of money spent on Xbox 360 related items (hardware, software and accessories) came in at $338 million for January 2013. This compares to 270,000 consoles sold in January 2012, and revenues of $301 million for the same period a year ago.

GamesIndustry International reports that overall, US video game sales came in at $834.7 million for January 2013, up nine percent from January 2012. This sounds like good news. In fact, it's the first time in over a year that video games sales have not gone down from year-to-year. However, NPD also recorded January 2013 as a "leap month" of five weeks compared to its normal four weeks, which means that the industry got one extra week they would not normally have.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II was the number one best selling game for January 2013, followed by Far Cry 3, Just Dance 4, NBA 2K13 and Madden NFL 13.

Would like to see more original IPs at this point. Guess devs are saving them all up for next-gen which is a shame but understandable.

Gotta say I much prefer PC gaming with a 360 controller. Much better graphics. Trouble now is everything is made for consoles...I DO like the fact that hacking is likely a lot less in the console world...isn't it?

who wouldn't like PC gaming better than console gaming, but it all comes down to convenience. Instead of sitting at my desk and playing my PC game, its more convenient to sit on my recliner, and pop in a disc and play xbox on my big screen tv and have a beer. also not all games are on PC like on console.

This can't be true, most people say console gaming is dead, dying, or will be dead, lol.
At least not till computers can keep up to consoles.

On another note, I sure hope the new XBOX isn't going to be called XBOX 720, that just sounds lame.
Of course I'll still buy it, that's a give in, it'll be the best thing since sliced bread.

I'll be surprised if it continues to stay on top much longer into this year seeing as how the lineup(exclusive wise) for the system this year is pretty much non-existent so far.

To be fair, considering non-exclusives work out in Xbox's favour I wouldn't worry about that.

google tv would kill to sell as many Xboxes as MSFT sells in a month. heck google tv would kill for anybody who bought one to actually use it.

...and yet I still can't find a single game for it that I want. I'm not into first-person shooters, and I already have a PS3, PC, and now Wii U. I already have more Wii U games than 360 games.

:-/ I want an Xbox 360 but wondering if I should just wait for the next one. I'm in no hurry, to be honest. The only console I own is a Wii (for the second time). Which I only buy when Zelda games come out.

The only computer games I have are Portal, Portal 2, and I'm playing through Half-Life 1 right now.
