Xbox Smart Glass, Skype and Twitter on top of free Windows 8 app list

It's a new month and that means a new look at the official list of the top Windows 8 free apps, as indicated by Microsoft's Windows Store feature.

It's not a shock to learn that Xbox SmartGlass remains the number one free Windows 8 app on the list. The app was number one at the beginning of March, and the app has also been number one on the list for the past several months.

In second place is Microsoft's Skype app for Windows 8, which just got a new update on Friday adding some more support to block contacts. In third place is a new entry on the list; it's the official Twitter app for Windows 8 that launched just a few weeks ago. It just shows that Windows 8 owners have been hungry for an official Twitter app made for the Windows 8 Metro interface.

The rest of the list has changed very little from the start of March, at least at the very top. Here is what the Windows Store claims are the top 10 most downloaded Windows 8 free apps at the moment:

1. Xbox SmartGlass
2. Skype
3. Twitter
4. Google Search
5. Facebook Touch
6. YouTube Player
7. Netflix
8. ESPN
9. Cut The Rope
10. 4 Pics 1 Word

Ha. I hear the Netflix one is pretty nice though. It makes the list too.

I honestly don't use modern UI on my Windows 8 computers, even my tablet PC. I use it mainly as a laptop but with touch for some things. The wacom pen for note taking is nice, too. I don't find any android or iOS tablets useful in any way, though.

While I don't have much seat time with the newest release of Skype, it by no means is amazing.

Netflix is pretty great, its shortcomings are just the normal netflix shortcomings not Windows 8 App specific.

You're insulting some of your fellow Neowin members who... you know... have written some decent metro apps.
