You can now earn achievements using OneDrive

Microsoft relaunched its SkyDrive data storage service earlier today as OneDrive, and that change extends to the app made for the company's Xbox One console. Today, Microsoft announced that owners of the Xbox One can also claim some new achievements when they use the OneDrive app.

Xbox Wire lists some of the new achievements that can be unlocked by using OneDrive and two of them are active for one week only. One of them simply requires a user open the OneDrive app in its first week, while the other can be achieved by playing through 20 images in a sideshow from an account's camera roll.

Other OneDrive-based achievements are pretty easy to unlock, such as "Hope those aren't all selfies…" (view 10 photos from the camera roll) and "Now you're thinking with folders" (Add a shared folder to OneGuide). Others will require both time and patience to unlock, like "Long exposure" (View 100,000 photos) and "On a roll" (Watch five hours of slideshows).

The site also reminds Xbox One owners that they can record clips from games they play on the console on its GameDVR and then use the Upload Studio to edit and upload the clip to their OneDrive account.

I really don't understand the point of these app achievements, I've got some for the NFL app but they don't offer gamerscore... So who cares?

For many people they're an incentive to explore the possibilities of the app

Future benefits for customers. Or, some people are achievement driven and like gaining them so, extra reason to use their products? =)

I wish someday MS will do a smart toilet giving un an achievement every time we poo.

Achievement unlocked. Poo combo 2x. Relieve yourself of a second poo before the first one touch the water.

Lol, or maybe they could use it for good: Toilet Cleaner, you left the toilet clean. Or... No ####, you wiped your skid marks.

the points, garnered outside games, don't amass to anything significant, so I'm cool with it.
and I honestly don't mind getting achievement points for doing things outside gaming.

What the F...seriously.
I think achievements should be limited to games.
At least they don't have any value.

They are just targeting OCD driven people.
Achievements in games are hardly ever real achievements anymore, they nowadays use them to mark progress like "Achievement Unlocked: defeated first boss". Unless you are playing Dark souls, that's not an achievement, it's simply part of the regular game flow and something you are expected to easily do.

Achievements for apps? oh wow, you saved a file, congratulations! uhh yeah, you uploaded a file, that's hardcore!

That's the point. It's not 'hardcore', therefor you don't get Gamerscore from these, but they're definitely incentive for people to collect these achievements and while doing that, exploring the possibilities of the services.

This is a good thing.

I like the folders one. These new achievements are pretty cool, especially since they don't add GS, just kinda cool to get.

Actually, I think its cool. Encourages people to explore what you can do with OneDrive... An incentive to dig a bit more

Kind of wish I had an Xbox One to check this out. Would be nice is the older 360 was compatible, but heck - I'm not buying an Xbox one just for Sky...errr...OneDrive.
