YouTube goes down [Update: Back already!]

The end of the world is nigh! That's right, YouTube went down with a 500 internal server error this morning for about five minutes. If you browsed to the site anywhere in the world, the site just responded with garbled text.

The outage lasted about five minutes, but was quickly fixed by the YouTube team. We can't remember the last time the site went down for a significant amount of time. So, where were you during the great apocalypse of 18-10-2012? We were right here, hitting F5.

Its Felix Baumgartners fault. Too many wanted to see the livestream ;-)
Either that or the idiots in Pakistan are at work again.

Garbled text. Right. Looks like they are actually encrypting the stack trace ;-) Creative. And, no, it's a bunch of load balanced servers so the fact that one was done doesn't mean much. Unless this was indeed a global problem.

Yeah, I've had this 500 Internal Server Error on occasion before on YouTube.. it's nothing to worry about! Just reloading the page usually fixes this... hardly news if it only affected a couple of people for a couple of minutes! ...back page news at best!

Thanks to neowin news people 'so out of date' according to some members, this luckially hasn't affected anyone here

It still has problems -- clicking the "see all" link to view all comments from some videos still throws the 500 error.

For a minute there I thought it was just me getting that error. I literally just hit refreshed and it was back up.

The site is a tad slower than it was browsing but the videos appear to be playing just fine.

This has happened a gazillion times before on YouTube... Just refresh once or twice & it goes away...

Indeed. Seems is due to a server load or feature roll up.

Just now:
502. That's an error.

The server encountered a temporary error and could not complete your request.

Please try again in 30 seconds. That's all we know.

Umm.. People. It said YouTube was down "this morning for about five minutes". Obviously you're using it right now... smh.
