YouTube swamped by porn

Reports indicate that YouTube was swamped yesterday by an abundance of pornography.

A large group of users began uploading seemingly innocent clips, many with kid-friendly tags such as "Jonas Brothers" and "Hannah Montana". The clips however, while possessing 30 seconds of normal content at the beginning, were predominantly explicit.

The attack is being dubbed the "Porn Day" attack by the culprits, users of the website "4chan".

Google has said that it is aware of the attacks, are is taking the appropriate action. Unfortunately, thumbnails may remain on the website for up to a week while Google removes the offending material.

The attack comes at a time where Google is already being sued by Viacom for not doing enough regarding copyright content. This occurrence may direct attention to Google, with regard to child safety on the web.

At least it shows that when people get organized, they can still get a message across despite any censorship. Well, unless the domain is hosted on GoDaddy.

What inane person would want to upload hidden pornography into a mindless harmful clip on YT in the first place in my view is one sick individual. I hope they find out who was responsible for this and throw the book at them. Imagine you're sat there with your son or daughter and she's just downloaded a care bear video of YT and all of the sudden appears Dolly Buster...? Some people may find it funny but to an eight year old it could be damaging. I would never let my kid near any porn, and if I found them looking I would ban them from the Internet.

Sick

Actually it would only be damaging if the kid could not understand what they were seeing. How can seeing pornography be damaging? Maybe 2 girls 1 cup... but porn? It's naked people... oh noes!!

A bit unnecessary tagging it with labels that children would search for, at least make the tags things that adults would mainly be searching for.

^^lol!

I seldom browse through YouTube videos, though I'm pretty sure it isn't 'stuffed' with porn, at most you will find moderate nude stuff.

What I find funny is when two guys are kissing it is marked as 'objectionable' and needing an age check, and yet when the same thing is done between a guy and a girl - nothing happens.

Well, you know, it's just the established norm that exhibiting homo materials in the public media is generally considered offensive.Live with it.

But is kissing cheeks between two men also viewed as offensive?

haha it made it on bbcworldnews and everything good on them xD quite honestly youtube should just create and adult section and cash in on it.

+1

I've recently read they're hardly making any money from it, but an actual porn section would certainly fix that :D
Given that there are already various others for that (YouPorn, PornoTube, RedTube...), the demand is there clearly.

LOL! I remember browsing /b/ one day for whatever reason and right there was a post called "YOUTUBE PORN DAY" And you're supposed to make an account, upload porn and set it to private, and then set all vids to public on some day in June.

Easy, just convert to 100% saturation and count the amount of skin shown. Find the face, and if the face is a small amount of the skin area, flag as porn.

What if it's african porn?

What if its a Britey Spears video?

Some people feel that bad grammar, capitalization, and punctuation should also be punished. Maybe we should all learn to let some things slide, eh?

I thought it was a clever response with Youtube removing songs from videos for the past couple of months.

Which is something they are legally required to do. Videos made for featuring specific songs are pretty freaking cheeky, and they do not come under fair use.

The act proposes the bigger message is the Internet does not the access control granularity required to administer realtime content monitoring. It's something that the MPAA, RIAA, and other copyright holders need to accept reality and find a suitable middleground with content providers, else the net plunges into the dark ages of a multimedia absent era.

Jesus... what's wrong? it's just porn... like you never saw your older brother's playboy when you were younger...

If I did, I'd be more interested in finding out about this secret elder brother of mine

How funny that the first time i've ever visited 4chan was yesterday and all i saw was a discussion about the "porn day":P

This "porn day" do seem kinda useless though

So you rate everything 5-stars without considering the article's content or quality? Nice.

Funny. Coming from a guy who seems to rate every article with 1 star.

Would you care to tell us why most articles are not up to par with you?

I rate it out of support for my fellow staff members.

Also, Unto Darkness raises a valid point

I love how the attack is by a bunch of kiddies who have probably never seen an actual nude girl in person considering its from 4chan.

If all the porn was taken off the internet there would be one website left called, "bring back the porn" :P
