Monthly Office Insiders build on Android brings dictation and PDF conversion for Word

Microsoft has released the monthly Office Insider build for its productivity suite of apps for Android users. The release comes a day after the monthly build was made available for iOS users. Today’s update bumps up the build number to 16.0.13127.20012.

While the update to the iOS version brought a few new features to Outlook and a dictation capability to Word, the Android version is receiving only the dictation feature, omitting Outlook features such as the ability to create tasks in To Do right from an email. These capabilities were announced earlier this month and should make it to Insiders on Google’s platform before being made generally available.

The new dictation feature in Word is similar to the one detailed for the iOS app. Tapping on the small icon switches to the dictation mode, after which users can tap the larger mic icon to start voice typing. The voice commands also let users insert punctuation by saying them via voice, or through the toolbar at the top of the mic. Users cannot, however, delete text using voice.

In addition to this feature for the text editing app, the Office suite is bringing the ability for users to annotate on PDFs and pick up where they left off on a PDF document, making it easy to navigate lengthy files. Users can now also convert PDFs into Word files.
