Square Enix announces Bravely Default II for the Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo 3DS didn"t get a ton of exclusive games from third-party developers during its lifetime, but Square Enix graced the platform with a brand new IP at the time, Bravely Default. The title features RPG mechanics somewhat similar to the company"s Final Fantasy franchise, combined with a unique art style and orchestrated music by Revo.

Now, the franchise is moving over to the Nintendo Switch, retaining the exclusivity to Nintendo platforms, with Bravely Default II. Despite what the name might indicate, the title is actually the third installment in the franchise, as the Nintendo 3DS saw the release of both Bravely Default in 2012 (2014, outside of Japan) and Bravely Second: End Layer in 2015.

Bravely Default II seems to follow the footsteps of its predecessors, with a similar art style and Revo coming back to deliver the soundtrack. Gameplay-wise, it"s likely that the game will also be similar, though the trailer didn"t show a lot in that regard.

Bravely Default II is planned for a release in 2020, and there"s no indication of a more specific release date. The Nintendo eShop listing is already live.
