The next Dell XPS 15 will not have Nvidia's RTX graphics

We"ve always praised Dell"s XPS 15 for being a great combination of power and portability, with its 45W H-series CPU and dedicated GeForce graphics. Since Nvidia"s announced its new GeForce RTX GPUs at CES this year, you might expect the new ray tracing cards to be included in Dell"s next flagship, but you"d be disappointed.

According to VP General Manager of Alienware, Gaming, and XPS at Dell, Frank Azor, the new XPS 15 will not have an RTX 2060. If that"s what you"re looking for, he recommends checking out the Alienware m15.

RTX2060 isn"t coming to XPS 15, it"s too high of a power consuming and heat producing chip to fit in. Checkout the new @Alienware m15 thin and light notebook, it will be offered with 2060 and faster and it"s not much bigger or heavier than XPS 15, less than 1lb difference.

Rumors have persisted in saying that Nvidia is still working on a new, non-ray tracing GPU, which will still be called GTX, possibly the GTX 1660. It seems likely that this is what will be included in the next XPS 15.

Dell last refreshed the XPS 15 back in April, with an eighth-generation Intel Core i9-8950HK CPU and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics. If Nvidia announces new GTX graphics within the next couple of months, the timing might be just right.
