HDMI Extender

I've been looking at HDMI extenders. I'm sure there was already a thread about this, but technology moves so fast there could be something better out now. I've been considering these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882750045 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882804157 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882750043 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812797004 I'm not sure which one is better. I can't find much on most the Tripp-lite ones and the other have mixed reviews. I'm not sure what to believe. I need to run about 35 feet. I have heard that some have gone the whole legth with an…

Really Need Help - Building an HD Home Theatre PC
by Sir Topham Hatt- 0 replies

So I was looking on a website about building an HD Home Theatre PC. I have an alright TV and surround sound PC speakers. Current Setup: 37" LG LH3000 TV 1 x 2Tb Western Digital external HDD 1 x 1Tb Western Digital external HDD Western Digital TV Obviously this isn't very future or growth proof. Having three or four hard drives all with their own power supply isn't really practical and I don't really want to be faffing about with plugging in different things. The new set up will ONLY be used for playing digital movies (M2TS, MKV, possibly VOB files). Unfortunately I can't remember (or even find!) the site I looked at, but it recommended getting the following comp…

Should I switch from DirecTV to Dish Network?
by Massiveterra- 13 replies
So my fiance recently got a job at Dish Network, and she'll be able to get the full Dish Network HD package for $40/mo. Our current provider is DirecTV, which I absolutely love (except for the fact AMC doesn't have HD, Dish has AMC HD). I've heard some very bad things about dish, especially with their HD compression, but I rarely watch TV, and if I do, it's usually from Netflix Instant or something from the internet. It's usually my fiance and roommate who watch it the most. The only other provider in our area is Comcast, and I refuse to support that company. With DirecTV, we currently pay $67/mo with their HDDVR package and showtime, but they recently sent a notificati…

I'm looking for a good 2010 guide of 1080p HDD media players that are currently available on the market and ready to order/ship. or just a good recommendation, but product needs to be new and fresh  Lastest hardware specs that will last me for a year or two. Best 1080p MKV H.264/MPEG-4 AVC performance. Lastest Realtek/Sigma chipsets that will decode tons of video codecs and will be able downmix HD audio(Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS, DTS-HD). eSata port is a bonus, but not required. i know about mpcclub.com, but is there any other websites that does coverage of 1080p HDD media players?! somewhat mainstream WDTV Live and ASUS O!Play HD…

Just bought some new speakers...

...and I just might go insane before they get here! I somehow managed to talk myself into getting the very nice Klipsch RF-82 II Home Theater system! I'll be upgrading (if you can even call it that) from the Klipsch HDT1000. I got what I think is an awesome deal. The normal price for the package is $2525.00. At this time, they are also throwing in a PA-150 sub for free ($400 value)(will probably be replaced with the RW-12D in the future). Not only that, but I managed to get them to take $500 off the price! That's a savings of $900!!! Holy Hell!! Sorry, I'm a bit giddy right now :D Can't wait to get them setup! Sure, my current room is a bit small, but who needs walkin…

Right now, my DVD collection is pretty extreme. I have at least 200-300 DVDs. I know that?s considered small over here, but in my small apartment, it takes up A LOT of shelf space. And this does not include my music CDs or the DVDs I burnt myself. These 200-300 DVDs consist of movies and A LOT of TV shows, especially classic shows. Now, that my Blu-ray collection is growing, my shelf space is becoming very limited and untidy. I was thinking of taking my DVDs and putting them in a wallet. Think about it. My 200-300 DVDs, which take up two entire shelves, can easily fit in a couple of those CD/DVD wallets. But the thing is?.I hate throwing out DVD covers. So, I?m curiou…

Twice I have hit the Direct TV 'on' button -- which is supposed to turn on both my HDTV, and Sat. TV box. Twice I get sound, but no picture. Twice I have turned off the TV, then back on -- which fixed the picture. Is this the TV or my box going screwy ? Keep in mind that I have been getting 'lines' in my TV picture, since I got the Direct TV box. The lines are pretty random, except when there is some text on the screen. Anyone had a similar experience ? Philips 42" HDTV ... about 2 1/2 years old.

Worried about Output to Amp for Surround Sound?
by Sir Topham Hatt- 4 replies
- 1.6k views
So, I am looking at getting a decent-ish surround sound set up. However a lot of my hardware, such as DVD player / HDD recorder have only these connections in the back: The red and white output jacks, but surely i'd need more if I was to get true surround sound? At the moment, I use a 2.1 upmix to 5.1 through some old Creative iTrigue 5600 speaker set and a simple 3.5mm jack out of the DVD player into the speakers. Thanks for any advice.

New House, New System

So my family got a house and Ill get the basement all to myself. I have some nice tall speakers. Ill take pictures later, they're older but they sound very nice and clean, so I plan on using them for now, and within a year I plan on building a proper home theatre system. But for now, I would like to keep the receiver under 150 if possible, the move is killing me and my parents with money so im looking at this for the time being http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Insignia%26%23153%3B+-+200W+2.0+Channel+Stereo+Receiver/9693507.p?id=1218151628383&skuId=9693507 It's mainly gonna be for "sound enhancement" so to speak. I want power and bass. Better than tv speakers of course. …

USB Sound Card Advice
by notta- 0 replies
- 1.5k views
Guys, every year we have a New Years Eve party and my sister is constantly changing out CD's all night long. This year I want to convert all her CD's to MP3 and use her laptop speaker jack to output to her receiver. The only problem with this is that the sound is noticeably lower than if the CD's were played from the stereo. Someone suggested a USB sound card. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good USB sound card? Price from $100 - $150 is fine even though some of the USB models I'm seeing only cost around $30. Thanks.

My dad

My dad has a Sony VCR/DVD combo that he bought about 6 years ago. He always uses the VCR portion, but very rarely watches DVDs. But the few times he?s used it, it worked fine with no problems. But the other day, he wanted to watch a DVD, and the disc tray wouldn?t open. I did some testing and when you press the ?Eject? button, you hear the player trying to eject the tray, but something is stuck and the tray wouldn?t come out. After press the eject button several times for 5 minutes, it finally opened and we were able to watch the DVD. And here?s the weird part?..after I got it to eject, the tray would open and close just fine until we power off the unit and leave it off a…

Will I Need Twin Tuners?
by Sir Topham Hatt- 2 replies
- 2.2k views
I currently have a really old LG HDD DVD player (RH177) connected to my TV using a SCART connection. I am looking to replace this as I miss having the ability to record digital channels; however one review I read of the unit I have looked at is that it "once again the lack of twin tuners prevents you from recording one channel and watching another, denying you the flexibility of PVRs like Sky+". The way I have it set up is this: 1) Ariel Input > Ariel Cable > HDD Recorder (Ariel In) > HDD Recorder (Ariel Out) > Ariel Cable > TV 2) HDD Recorder > SCART Cable > TV 1) is the only ariel signal I have going into the TV. By wiring it this way, it mean…

How to Home Theatre
by Sir Topham Hatt- 6 replies

My aim: to have about 10Tb of storage for a Media Centre to watch movies/tv programmes on my TV. Going on from another topic, I have a clear choice: Build a Server While this may be the most complicated way, I should think by the time it is up and running, it'll be very good. Simply a bunch of 2Tb disks in some form of array, so either JBOD or combined storage. I'd prefer JBOD as it'll be easier to manage files that way for transportaion elsewhere, no array, I'll risk one of them going and loosing the files with it (never happened as yet?). Buy a Server At the moment, this is my preferred option as I'm not that confident in building a server. I just need something…

Creative XFI SPDIF to Receiver with Digital in
by sullysnet- 1 reply

Sorry if this has already been answered but I wanted to talk about my specific setup and hope that someone has a similar setup. I was thinking about outputting digitally from my PCIe Creative XFI Titanium Sound card to this Sherwood Receiver with Digital in http://www.sherwoodusa.com/site/sherwood/receiver/R904.php?mtype=1# It has the speaker connections I need and the sub out connect. It will also allow me to update my sub at some point. Moving to this setup I am hoping that the system sounds better than my current Klipsch 5.1 ProMedia Ultra setup. I do not have the original Klipsch speakers but I have updated them to a better pair of Klipsch speakers (5). My quest…
