In search for HDTV
by Skulltrail- 4 replies
- 1.5k views
Hello fellow Neowinians I'm search of an HDTV to buy for my bedroom. I've got $350 saved up and well do not want to spend much more on a TV. I play a lot of Xbox 360 games and watch a few TV shows like Sons of Anarchy and Supernatural. I've looking into buying a 32" 720p HDTV seeing that these are the cheapest at such a gargantuan size. I would prefer a 1080p HDTV but the only one I can actually afford under my strict budget are in the 22-26" range. I currently have a 26" CRT TV which is much bigger than a 26" LCD HDTV, which is why I'm looking at larger HDTVs to try to cope with my large CRT TV. Could anyone guide me in a direction? Which is better for Xbox 360 games? …

We have a 20 year old Sony 27" CRT TV in our living room. This thing is a beast and has still not died after 20 years. It's really incredible. This TV is huge and it taking up a lot of space in the living room. We have a nice flat screen TV in the family room and we really don't need this old huge tube anymore. However, my parents are like "Just leave it there and we'll get rid of it when it eventually dies." The problem is- it won't die. So now... since my parents don't want to throw out this old tube TV, is there any way I can help this TV die sooner so we can finally get rid of it? Any input would be great appreciated. I know it's a silly question, but I really can't…

Xbox or XBMC?
by edbro- 7 replies
- 1.7k views
I want to get a silent media center pc for my living room. I was intrigued by the recent build of XBMC on the Acer Aspire Revo that I'm sure everybody saw on Lifehacker a while back. Lifehacker article My question is, is it better to build something like this or get an XBOX? My needs are: - Play dvd quality video off my NAS via wired ethernet - all video is ripped to ifo/vob files - ability to view jpg pictures - ability to hook up an external hd - little to no desire to play games on an Xbox - little need for any pc apps on the Acer if I go that route. MC only. - silence - reliability (I've heard Xbox's are troublesome?) I have built my own PCs and I'm fairly …

help with Hi Def
by shattered- 1 reply
I have a 1080p LCD monitor and Direct TV. I might be moving in about 6 months. I currently do not have an HD receiver, however, I want to get one as standard def on my TV does not look that good. My question is which one to get. If I move, I will not be getting Direct TV again. Most likely I will get FIOS or UVERSE. Is there a "universal" HD box that I can get to where I won't have to eventually buy 2 and end up just having one sit in the attic. Thanks for any help.

TV+DVD(Bluray) Suggestion
by AbandonedTrolley- 3 replies
- 1.2k views
Okay a friend has come to me with a ?1,000 budget and asked for best TV and DVD player. I think you can probably replace the DVD with bluray in my opinion and when thinking about that I also considered the PS3 slim at Sainbury at the moment for ?200. Anyone know of any good combos or deals going on at the moment? I've got a Sony and love it but heard that either Panasonic or Samsung aren't too bad either.

Surge Protectors
by JoeyF- 9 replies
- 1.4k views
I just got a LG 32LH30 TV on sale at Best Buy, and the sales rep was pressing me to spend another $80 on a surge protector. I'm wondering, is there any advantage to the expensive, name-brand surge protector vs a $10 one from Wal-Mart? All I am planning to connect to it is the TV, satellite DVR, and a DVD player - what would be an idea surge protector for that setup?

I recently got a new set of speakers for my workstation/desk/"theater" setup, and I'm looking for some sort of audio selector that I can plug all my devices into. I'd like to be able to plug in my computer, Xbox 360, iPod, and radio, and have a separate volume control for each. Preferably around $50. Does something like this exist?

Build HTPC? or PS3?
by netwokz- 11 replies

This is my first Topic, so i thought this would be the best place, but if i am wrong please let me know. I have an old PC (P4, 2GB RAM, Intel video) connected to our projector in the living room, i am looking to upgrade. I mainly use it for downloading torrents, watching movies, and as a simple movie and music server for mine and my roommates laptops. It can play most 720p videos, but some struggle. I am doing some research and found out i can load Ubuntu on the PS3(not the slim) and use it as a computer and game console. So, would that be better then building a new comp? I am dual booting my laptop with Win7 and Ubuntu to try and learn linux a bit, but would a Linux PS3…

I recently got a job at best buy, but they didn't need any more people in the computer departments, so I got put into the home theater section, problem is they need a audio guy. Talking to a bunch of the guys in the dept. theres a few people that know a decent amount about audio to sell but wouldn't consider them selfs knowledgeable about audio stuff. I know tons about tvs but i would put myself somewhere in the intermediate level as far as audio knowledge and i think there looking for someone with expert knowledge. where do i start? ive just been doing google searches and picking up various facts.

Good second-hand HDTV on a budget?
by MightyJordan- 5 replies
- 2.3k views
My parents are planning to clear out the spare room in our house and use it for what it was originally intended: a bedroom. :p It was mostly used as a computer room until a few years ago, where since then, it has become basically a walk-in skip. My brother's moving in there, and he's taking our current TV with him, so that means I need a new one! :D Which is a good thing, as my current one is a Samsung WS-32Z409T, which I've had for a couple of years, but it's not that good. I can never see the full picture, it's not 1080p, and it's huge. I should warn in advance that our budget is quite low at the moment: around ?200> ?280.b> I'll just say good luck with this!:p:…

HDTV Resolutions and Consoles...
by NoLiMiT06- 10 replies
- 1.6k views
Ok guys I have a PS3 and Xbox360, both of them detect my tv optimum resolution as 1080p. Well my tv says its only 1080i, so my question is how are both consoles displaying at 1080p when my tv supposedly does not support that resolution? Should I just switch it to 1080i, 720p or just leave it how it is?

I am tempted at an Apple TV however I can't find any solid evidence for if it supports playback of DivX/XviD/MKV (X264/H264) video? I am assuming the information is out there just not that easy to find. Also how does the media sharing work. Does it share via iTunes or do it use MTP? Cheers in advance all. M
