Hey guys, basically i bought 5.1 surround sound and a A/V receiver for my PS3/360/sky HD, having issues with where to put my speakers, The room its in is 13ft by 11ft wide with TV on the longest wall, so common sense says each corner right? well, this is a picture of setup (before a/v and speakers) http://www.imgdash.com/uploads/6c719_IMG_2678.JPG Basically its an odd shaped room, i am standing in the doorway there (imagine a rectangle with a cutout a small addon on the right side), i don't mind drilling into the wall or w.e as long as i can hide cables :p Thanks Nicholas-c

Subwoofer help

I listen to a lot of music. I live in an apartment - I don't want to disturb the neiborhs too much. Depending on how a track was mastered, there's a huge variance on the amount of bass in each track. I need help setting up a sub to 'remove' the bass from the speakers as I have more refined control on the sub and give better range for the sound for my system. I have the Klipsh RF-10 speakers. There's two RED-Black terminals on the back of the speakers and a metal plate to connect each. I'm assuming that the manual refers to coupling/decoupling is if the plate is on or not. When I removed the plate, I think it stops the bass (lows) in the speakers. The sub has one RCA-i…

Sorry if this thread is kinda stupid, but I need to wrap my head around this logic. I apologize if this question offends anyone. But I have a few friends all of which own a PS3. They have about 4 or 5 PS3 games which they play and shockingly they only have like 3-4 titles on Blu-ray. I ask them, why only 3-4 movies? They?re like: because they?re too expensive. Long story short, I try to prove them wrong. A few movies they like are: The Dark Knight, Cars, Requiem for a Dream, and V For Vendetta. Respectably, at Amazon, they currently cost $16.99, $15.49, $9.49, and $9.99. They still say ?no? despite the fact that they're cheap and they love those movies. I mean, what?s so…

help selecting receiver
by joe from maine- 1 reply

So I found what appear to be a pair of bad-assed speakers on the streets of Portland, along with a seemingly functional receiver/tuner/cd player. Turns out the player seems to have shorts -- it powers off after a short time, even in stand-by mode, but the speakers reminded me of what it was like to have "real" sound in my apartment, and I want to dress them up with a decent receiver/tuner unit, with or without on-board CD player. The speakers: Dynamic Audio Pro Poly Series 1901 8ohms/max 125 watts. Are these as good as they look? What should I be looking for in terms of technical specifications to drive these? I haven't purchased audio equipment in at least 20 year…

I have a Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-ray player and sometimes when it loads a BD-Java disc, it will freeze when the main menu comes up. At first, I thought it was a bug in the player, but then I realized that it only occurs on BDs I rent from Blockbuster Online. Some discs tend to have quite a bit of scratches. While BDs do have that coating, people who rent these tend to mishandle the discs and abuse it. What?s weird is that this doesn?t happen all the time. The menu will freeze and I?ll have to reboot my player. Next time, it will boot up ok. Kind of weird. This is what made me think that this was a bug in the player. However, I just rented ?The Bourne Ultimatum? and that di…

Is Blu-ray starting to become popular? 1 2 3 4
by DaDude- 75 replies

Whenever I go to stores now and browse through the Blu-ray section, there's quite a bit of people now. Before, the Blu-ray section used to be almost empty. Now, it seems like more people are there. In fact, there are times when it's a bit crowded and annoying. Does this mean Blu-ray is becoming popular now? I keep hearing rumors that Blu-ray will most likely become the next laserdisc.

Hey guys, im having a bit of a problem setting up my parents early xmas present. Basically i bought them a Acer Aspire Revo 3600 (single core), i set it up for them today with Windows 7, installed the latest ION drivers and then tried it out on their tv using the HDMI output but i get the weirdest problem, it seems that no matter what resolution i set the computer to it always crops the edges of the picture on the tv, so basically the bottom of the screen starts displaying about the top third of the taskbar and the top quarter of the start orb, like this: (note: this isn't a screenshot of my desktop, i just grabbed it off google and cropped it to show what i was talki…

External NTSC w/QAM tuner?!?
by cmc482- 1 reply
- 1.2k views
Hello, I bought my 42" plasma HD monitor a year or so back. Since it did not have a tuner built it it was cheaper then the HDTVs. I figured I'd always have cable and would use the comcast box for the tuner. Well the time as come when money is tight so I down graded to basic cable. I know I could just rent a SD box for $1 a month but would like to get the HD/Digital channels for the big cable channels (ABC, CBS, FOX). I've been searching the net but haven't really found an external tuner with NTSC (for the analog) and QAM ( for the digital HD) channels. Have you bought one or know where to get one? Thanks Chris

Help needed with the AVC-A1XVA
by booboo- 6 replies
- 8.2k views
Okay so my dad passed away 6 month's ago and he was a big hi-fi fanatic. He had the denon AVC-A1XV, coupled with a 5.2 system (B&W speakers, and 2 REL Subwoofers). So yes a hell of a system, the thing is, I have no ****ing idea how to use it. It's got about 50+ inputs and It's all setup to work, hoever I recently noticed the two subwoofer's are not working at all. Apart from (maybe) on the Dvd input. I want to change this, I want the sub's to work on _all_ input's like it should. Does anyone know a good helpline / manual? I can't find a in-depth manual only some "Bed_upgrade.pdf" which isn't what I want. Thank's guy's, I want this system running back up properly i…

Need Help Advice On New Home Theater Sound System 1 2
by DirtyLarry- 32 replies
- 3.2k views
Okay, so I just won $500, and like any responsible adult who has just won money, I think I decided I am going to spend it on something I never would have purchased otherwise. So truth is, I am not 100% sure I am going to do this, but I would like to and my wife said it was okay, so especially since I recently just hooked my spare XBox 360 up in my bedroom, and the small speakers on my Samsung 40" HDTV in my bedroom just suck, no other way to put it. So this new set up would be replacing my current one and my current one will be going into the bedroom. What I am looking at getting is the Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W System. I can get it for around $325 and that is g…

PS3 5.1 Sound.
by Pablo2008jedi- 12 replies
- 1.5k views
Hey all, I'm looking for the cheapest way to get 5.1 from my PS3. I don't currently own a 5.1 speaker system and looking about I understand that to get 5.1 from the PS3 is to use either Optical or HDMI as the sound source. The onlu problem is that every 5.1 speaker system I have seen with either of these is over ?180, I'm looking for something much cheaper:pp ?50 mark and not too sure if it is possible. I understand I could get a optical to digital coax converter (about ?15) I've seen a 5.1 system @ ?40 not sure if its got digital coax but it does says Dolby Digital?? Totally out my depth so any advice would be helpful.
