I've had the Sony BDP-S360 Blu-ray player for six years and never had a single issue until now. The HDMI port is failing so I'm trying to find a replacement. I ended up buying the Panasonic BD 903 player over the Black Friday weekend for $40 at Best Buy. I decided to go for it since Panasonic players always had good reviews. But in the few days I had it, I experiences a couple of video/audio hiccups. This is something I NEVER had to deal with on the Sony player. I wanted to take it back but my friends are telling me to keep it because it seems to perform well overall and one or two occasional hiccups is normal and not a big deal, according to them. …

Harmony 350 remote issue
by McCordRm- 0 replies
- 1.6k views
Ok, so I bought a Logitech Harmony 350 remote. My TV is a Panasonic TC-P65VT60. I got my TV setup on the remote just fine; everything synched and I can control everything on the TV just fine... with one exception. The APP menu. One of the buttons opens up Netflix directly, but this TV has a ton of apps available on it and I can't figure out how to get the Harmony remote to open the App menu.

With Black Friday fast approaching, I've had my eye on the Samsung UE40H6400 for an awful long time. However, recently I have come across the Philips 40PUT6400. Now, I was pretty settled with the Samsung as I will be using the TV primarily as a computer monitor and also as a television. I'll be mainly using Windows applications, with the odd games here and there. (FIFA, GTA, Need for Speed etc, no first person shooters! lol) I have seen a 40" TV used as a Windows desktop at 1080p and I was quite happy with the result. However, I'm torn as to whether I should consider "future proofing" myself and going with the Philips as it offers 4K. I'm not entirely sure how a 40" 4K T…

Best Direction to Improve Projector Picture Quality?
by Klownicle- 2 replies
- 4.8k views
What is the best direction to take to improve picture black/contrast. Lights are always off, viewing it always/only at night. I'm not interested in daytime viewing with the projector, I have a tv mounted behind the screen drop. Current Setup; -> VisualApex 1.1gain 106in White Matte Screen Electric -> BenQ W1080ST DLP Sharpness doesn't seem to be an issue, or clarity. Where I'd like to improve is black level/contrast. I'd like to do something but I'm unsure which direction to take. With my current setup, I'm limited to short throw projectors due to mounting location. But if its what is needed to be done, then I can move the projector to a more standard locati…

[UK] Wall plate with HDMI and power
by Jonny Wright- 0 replies
- 1.5k views
I'm helping a mate with his new home theatre setup at his new pad and I am looking for a dual gang faceplate incorporating both power (either UK 3-pin or "kettle lead") and HDMI (ethernet and USB would be a nice addition too). I have managed to find a few but not as many as I thought I would and all I have found are not quite appropriate or too expensive. I'll show you what I've found so far; 3-pin mains and HDMI This is by far the most like what I'm after, however I'm sure most will agree its not the nicest looking - almost looks like an early prototype (I guess it kind of is, I think it was custom made for a customer) and is also quite a lot more than we had hoped…

HDMI Port Protection
by Dashel- 6 replies
- 2.4k views
Any tips on how to protect the apparently very sensitive HDMI chips on many home devices? Since I unified this has become almost an annual ritual. Another stormy season has wrought havoc on all components with an HDMI connection. Infrastructure is grounded and behind UPS/isoblocks on power and data. Ferrite cables? Better 'unplug' mechanism? Additional outside grounding? Active hub?

Denon HDMI issues
by nekrosoft13- 1 reply
- 2.4k views
I used to own an Onkyo that was due for upgrade and I bought brand new Denon AVR-S910W, ever since I got the Denon I been having HDMI issues. first it started with occasional green horizontal lines across the screen, I replaced both HDMI cables, one going from PC (AMD APU powered home theater PC) going to receiver and from receiver to TV. Now when we are watching TV, the TV will occasionally every 20-60 minutes will black out for about a second and picture will return. I have about 20 days to return the unit, if I can't figure out what is causing it, I will have no choice but to return it. My old Onkyo never had that issue.

Output smart content audio to receiver via HDMI
by spikey_richie- 4 replies

Hey guys, So I'm a bit of a newbie with home cinema. I have a Sony STRDN-1000 7.1 receiver, and I've been using it with a 37" LG LCD screen for a few years with no issues. I have HDMI inputs from my Chromecast, Blu-Ray and Sky+ box going into the receiver, and being displayed on the TV (standard stuff). I've now replaced the TV with this and can easily emulate my old set up by just putting the HDMI cable into HDMI 1. Again, simple stuff. But what I now want is for the audio from the smart apps on the TV to be sent to the receiver. Can I do this with the HDMI cable? Or do I need to use an RCA output from the TV, and use an audio input on the receiver? Fewer cables the be…

Streaming App Issues

I am trying to stream videos from Google Drive to my Chromecast but without luck. - If I play videos on my Android device from Google Drive, it plays without issue. - If I play videos from Drive into Chrome on PC, using the Cast extension to Chromecast, it plays without issue (though I have no real control over video) - If I use AllCast, LocalCast or 5 others I tried, it stops, freezes or does not play at all. What is going on? How do I get this to work from my Android Device (GDrive) to my Chromecast?

Hi everyone, I have STR-K840P, which came with 1 x SS-CNP2 and 4 x SS-MSP2 , plus a subwoofer. The receiver is having some problems with its display, it was going very dim, and I think it finally gave out and it's permanently off now, other lights are still working, so I think it's time to get a new one with HDMI support (this one does not have HDMI) It's +12 years old. According to specs: Receiver and Subwoofer: Satellites:

Suggest a 50" inch LED TV for under/around
by Alex_is_Axel- 12 replies

Hey guys, I could really do with your help. I am looing to buy a new TV however my budget is really tight. I am in the hunt for a 50inch LED TV with smart features at the price range of under or around ?400. I know this is a low fund which is why im searching for the best bang to buck for the best possible TV that i could afford within the budget. I have had a Hanspree tv previously and it has served me well however it has become abit dated over the years. I have spotted one on eBuyer: http://www.ebuyer.com/611946-digihome-50-full-hd-smart-eled-freeview-hd-tv-lcf501080snbsm Any thoughts on this tv? Is there anything out there that is a better TV? Is there a …

New question! The internets have not been forthcoming with a clear answer. I have a Denon AVR 789 receiver and a 5.1 speaker setup. I'm not a big fan of things like Pro Logic II, which my receiver supports (though this may be due to a lack of understanding). IMO, I'd like the best direct audio I can get without too many bells and whistles. My Xbox One can output audio in Stereo, 5.1, 7.1 and DTS Surround (all of which the receiver supports). Because I have a 5.1 speaker setup, I figure that the choices for me are 5.1 or DTS. But which is better? I play games (I noticed Forza 5 sounded a lot better when I turned on DTS), movies via Netflix and Blu …

60-65" HDTV suggestions
by DaCypher- 13 replies
- 2.7k views
I need to replace my old (now barely functioning) Samsung rear projection TV. I have bought a 65" LG LB6300 but I have had to return it and it's replacement since they both suffered from some pretty severe backlight issues (clouding, flashlighting, banding, etc.). So now I figured I'd ask around a bit more (instead of just trusting Amazon reviews). This is what I'm looking for: * 60 or 65" * Good backlight * Good blacklevels * 3 HDMI inputs * Optical audio out passthrough so I can send audio coming in from the HDMI inputs out to my receiver (receiver doesn't support ARC and I'd rather not have to replace that too). Oh and DTS on the optical out too (the LG did…

I'm pretty new to the audio side of things, but thats the fun of learning about it I have no idea what are consider good brands when it comes to the speakers, and receiver so this would help me out a ton.. Quiet Voice, Loud Everything Else 1 2
by +cacoe- 26 replies

It seems to be more and more that movies require you to have your volume set extremely high if you want to hear voice, but when it comes to music and sound effects, the volume for these things are already two or three times louder than the dialogue! It's like they're preserving the cinema levels a little bit too much. This would be fine if we all lived in detached houses 10m from everyone else but obviously, I need to think about the neighbors. I'm playing my movies through Windows Media Center on my xbox 360 which doesn't really offer any software control over audio but I get some control through a stereo system which the audio is output. I've managed to get the voice …

Looking for my first home theater-in-a-box
by Angel Blue01- 5 replies

I bought my first LCD TV a year ago and after a year of usage would like to have a decent sound system to hook up to it, the TV has digital audio output. As it happens, after 17 years of service my home stereo system has finally died. So I'm looking for a replacement for the stereo system, to connect to the TV. I've spent a few hours browsing Amazon and Newegg but haven't found what I need. None of the best-selling models of "home theater in a box" devices have the basic features I need to fully replace the stereo: The device need to have some sort of analog audio AUX input, RCA or 1/8 inch (35mm), for the LP record player. It needs some sort of headphone capabiliti…
