A bad beach day + a digital camera
by heesey1010- 6 replies

So I was out near Daytona Beach today with some friends and I decided to take my digital along, not knowing that it would be so darn windy. Well it got real windy and i happened to be trying to get up on a ledge when i hit my camera on it, and at first it kept on flashing lens error and i'm like "just great". I got it to work again but then whenever I turn it on/off and do optical zoom, I hear this crunching sound from the lens retracting/protruding. The zoom works fine but I'm wondering if this is going to be the slow and eventual death of my camera? Nikon E/Coolpix 3200, about year and half old now i think? Thanks to all.

Firewire
by mitt- 4 replies

I got this Canon MVX350i camcorder. It uses miniDV tapes and it has a firewire port. The problem is it doesn't come with a firewire cable (which I bought myself meanwhile) nor specialised software for transferring a movie from tape to computer. Does anyone know whats the best (or close) software out there for this thing? I know it's basically digital, but I heard from people who transfered via firewire and the movie quality was lousy.

Photo Advice Needed
by Kerm- 3 replies
- 1.1k views
Hey, i have images that i'm wanting to crop, but crop effectively. How would i go about cropping a 3456 x 2304 image which would best fit a 7" x 5" for example. I have Photoshop. An example; if i crop what i like from a photo, what if the dimensions don't fit with print sizes? I.e what i crop is 6 x 5 (or to that proportion), so if printed on 7 x 5 it would be stretched and unnatural. Pic attached, for what good it may do. How do you do it? Is there a blatantly obvious way i'm missing? Thanks. P.s I don't just want 7 x 5, i would like 12 x 8, 14 x 11, 20 x 8, etc, etc, etc.

Need a little advice
by #Michael- 9 replies

I thing I am getting good at taking pictures and am enjoying taking shots of the desert (as I live in the desert) but I want to take pictures of people doing normal things. Since I live in Vegas I thought I would start by going to the strip or Freemont expreience and hanging out there for awhile and shooting some candid shots of people doing everyday things. But what I am looking for is good pictures not just touristy point-n-shoot. How do I actually do that without looking like an idiot? How do you people who actually take very good pictures of people and post them here do it without wigging people out?

Cnet article amazing photography with P&S camera?
by dior_addict- 4 replies
- 1.1k views
Hey guys, I hope is this relevant enought to photography to be posted here. I remember an article posted on Neowin, regarding a Cnet article (I think) regarding some really nice photographs being taken using an order P&S camera and it was all in the way the girl shot the pictures that made it come out nice. Anyone remember that article and can link it to me? I can't for the life of me find it again. The only distinct photograph I remember from the article was something of a closeup of a lime. Thanks

Recording Video
by Rogo- 4 replies

Hi... Basically.. My friends are starting a new club night... and ive told them as a favour ill do them a promotional video to put on their webiste. Nothing major just a little something of the crowd, DJ's and external shot of the venue My problem being... the club will obviously be dark.. but there isnt a function to keep the flash on constant so it brightens the area i want to film.. So i was looking for some suggestions on what i can do.. The club lights will make some lighting.. but not enough i dont think.. so any ideas would be helpfull.... Thanks..

Why aren't dSLR capable of recording video? And please don't reply "because the lens comes off" because there has to be a more complete/thorough explanation.

Looking for a camera
by Sammyinnit- 4 replies

Hey, Im looking for a digital camera... Ok... basic I know, but the one I currently Have is absolute rubbish. Its a 3.2 Megapixel camera from Polaroid, but its terrible. The battery life is pathetic. And you only have to move the slightest bit when taking a photo and it is blurred, the only way I can get good pictures is with a Tripod. The reason I need a good digital camera, is that I dont have enough time to develop and scan pictures from my other cameras (Canon T90 and T70). But, I dont want to spend too much and I still want good quality, ease of use and good battery life. Id say around the ?300 or ?400 mark would be my budget, but if its good enough I may be pr…

Need your opinion
by Dallas- 17 replies
- 2.2k views
Alright if you have read one of the 50 other thread I have made in this section, you might know that my manual SLR seems to be biting the bullet. I am ready to upgrade to newer, auto focus camera. So let's get to the point. I want to eventualy get a digital SLR, but right now funds are a little short. I was thinking about getting a Canon Rebel 2000 or T2/K2 to tide me over until I get a dSLR. If I were to get a 35mm SLR now I would have to wait a little longer to get a dSLR. What is your opinion on this subject matter. I will probably need a film camera that works for a photography class I am taking next year, so right now all signs are pointing to a 35mm.
