Hey there, Weird 1... I have a freshly built Win10 16237, and as soon as i join the domain, i cannot open files on my desktop. Like opening a txt file, i get an error, "the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process ". Using another laptop with build 16193, which is my usual work horse, all is fine. We use ActivSync, so things like Desktop, Documents, Favourites etc are stored in a central location. If i navigate to the central location of my user folder, i can open the files there fine, on the same machine that has an error. Nothing comes up in the event logs... really scratching my head on this one! …

16226 doesn't seem to install
by patseguin- 0 replies

I had problems with the last big insider build installing and removing Samsung Magician was got it to install. I have not since re-installed it. I've had the notification to reboot for 16226 for days now. Everytime I reboot, it takes a long time so I go and do something else. I come back and am at login and type my pin and the 16215 build number is still there. I've tried 5 times and every time it just doesn't install. Anyone know of a known issue causing this? EDIT: After googling I see that this problem is common. I decided to just get out of insider and roll back. However I can't seem to find how took roll back anymore. I…

I just installed a copy Windows 10. When I go to the Windows Insider Program section in settings and click 'Get Started', it tells me, "We aren't able to talk to our service right now. Please try again later." I tried it on a second PC and got the same message.

16215 Fails To Install
by patseguin- 10 replies

I've been an Insider for years and decided to switch back to the fast ring last night with the release of so many new features. My computer reboots like normal and goes through the process to 26%. After rebooting I get a quick flash saying "attempting to restore installation", then another reboot. After that reboot, I get a blue screen that says "inaccessible boot device". That is followed by one more reboot back into my original version of Windows. Anyone else have this problem? EDIT: For anyone else with the issue, it is happening to others: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_wintp-insider_install/cant-update-to…

Windows 10 and Apple Magic Trackpad
by norseman- 12 replies

Good day, I have installed the Technical Preview and Technical Preview 2 and still cannot get the multitouch for my Apple Magic Trackpad to work. I love this trackpad and was hoping that Windows 10 might fix the use of it. Does multitouch work for anyone else? I know of third party software that is paid for which gives some basic functions but it would be nice to know it was supported for multitouch natively...

I updated to the new 10074 build but when I log in I have a black wallpaper on my monitor. In the top left a "Personalised Settings" window opens up but immediately stops responding. If I close it and attempt to open explorer.exe from the task manager the same box opens up and crashes again immediately. I managed to get an explorer window open via task manager so I was able to open these programmes to write this. I tried running the /sfc scannow command in CMD and it claims it found corrupted files and replaced them, however I am met with the same issues when attempting to log in.

Running Windows 10 TP, no problems initially, but now I have a weird problem. I shut down the PC, when I start it up, the boot proceeds to the Windows logo and then the PC shuts down immediately. The only fix is to boot, enter BIOS, save and quit - then Windows boot. Any ideas? I am guessing it has to do with Windows doing one of its hybrid, partial shut down routines which fails to work for some reason...

64-bit chrome/chromium based Issues with 15031
by Circaflex- 9 replies

I am on the 15031build, but even the build before this I have encountered an issue and I am wondering if anyone else has experienced the same. Using Chrome/Chrome Beta/Dev/Vivaldi/Chromium if I try and access settings via the hamburger menu, nothing happens. Also, right clicking on web content does nothing. I noticed this behavior does not happen when I am hooked up to my surface dock with an external monitor. Thinking scaling had caused this, setting it to 100% on my Surface Book still produces this problem. SFC found no errors, so I am hoping others have had this problem before I nuke it and start fresh. This is an x64 install and also the browsers are the 64-bit varian…

I have tried five times, and I get a Green Screen of death, when I try to install the 15002 update. Other people are starting to have the problem. I have an AMD CPU & AMD Graphics card with a Sata SSD. I am stuck on 14986, and can't get the updates. I have stopped Windows Insider updates for now.

Audio Service crashes causing audio output to stop on build 15002.
by Link_of_Hyrule- 3 replies

At random times the audio output will stop. The only way to fix it is to reboot or to open an elevated command prompt and run net stop AudioSrv and after that net start AudioSrv. Has anyone found a fix for this issue other than restarting the service? Please upvote this issue https://aka.ms/Kbrfi0

I don't know when it started but no matter what version of Windows 10 Insider Preview I'm using (currently running 15002), I cannot change the lock screen photo. I click on Settings, Personalization, Lock Screen and under where it says "choose your picture" under the thumbnail photos Browse is grayed out and I cannot click on it. Can someone please help me rectify this issue? Thank you.

Windows 10 Build 15002 Random Reboots
by Robbie Ride- 0 replies
- 2.1k views
I recently installed the last Insider Preview build of Windows 10 - 15002 and I have ran into an issue which is very frustrating in that I cannot find the cause. I have Windows 10 installed via Virtual Box and previously I had no issues what so ever. But now since installing the latest build I experience random reboots. No 'Green Screen of Death', no freezing or locking up, nothing!! Before this started after the update I could open apps, settings etc and then I noticed that I couldn't open Task Manager by right clicking the Taskbar, then other little things such as right clicking on the time/date, network icon etc would do nothing. then first reboot. Then opening o…

How do I open/upload a MIG file from an external-drive with Microsoft 10?

I set up a preinstalled Windows 10 Hyper-V VM from Microsoft which also activated using "a digital license" from my Microsoft account. It is currently on build 14393.576 which is latest production update, the build from Microsoft was 1607 with updates till November, so it also successfully installed some Cumulative Updates to get to where it is now, on Tuesday evening I enrolled in Insider previews and set it to the Fast ring, and now this morning I am still not getting 14986.1001 offered. What gives? It is past the 24 hours it usually takes to be enrolled, or switch rings. Just wondering if anyone else has experience with Insider builds in a VM and can help m…

[ISSUE] Update breaking driver(s)
by LittleFroggy- 2 replies
- 1.8k views
I tried to update to the latest update I think you guys are saying its the "creators update?" 148xx.xxxx I forget. it broke my Nahimic driver. So I simply did a recovery back to my last build 14393.576. is it normal for moving up a build for it to break drivers? Usually I'd think that drivers would work without any real issues. I know that CAN happen. I am keeping my system in the meantime on the Release Preview ring. It would suck if everytime a new build releases, our drivers need to be "fixed", can be discouraging to a certain extent.

HI All, My W10M phone seems to have become 'stuck' at build 14965 (Lumia 930). I check for updates and nothing seems to happen. Any idea if it is possible to force W10M to update to a new build? I suspect this build may have become horribly corrupted as a significant amount of apps have stopped working (stuck forever at loading screen). Cheers! UL

Since resetting my NUC PC at b14965, and thu 14971, first the Photos app self-starts after ~5 mins of keyboard-inactivity (a shorter period than my screen-timeout) and then ~5 mins later the 'Films & TV' app opens. I thought I knew Windows pretty well, but I cannot think by what mechanism 2 modern 1st-party apps are instructed to start (e.g. it's not thru the Task Scheduler). I share my online MS account profile with another PC that does not show the same issue. I'm baffled, can anyone suggest what is causing this and how to defeat it? TIA.

I'm using Windows 10 Insider build 14951.1000, and I checked under Insider Program and it still has Fast selected, but it has been quite a long time since I saw an upgrade. Any ideas how to force an upgrade? The Update status says "Your device is up to date. Last checked: Today, 8:13 AM" Any ideas?
