PopCharms Charms Bar Launcher
by CyclingGuyNOLA- 16 replies

Created this app to enable the Right-Edge cursor activation of the Charms Bar instead of using the Keyboard Shortcut in situations where I wasn't always sitting near the keyboard. Maybe useful to others. :) Description: PopCharms Simple app to enable users to move their cursor to Right Edge of Screen to open the Charms Bar without using Keyboard Shortcut manually. For Windows Store Apps: If you have a Windows Store App open and move to Right Edge, it will automatically open the Settings Charm for the app. I did it this way to get away from having to click the Menu Bar\ Settings in the app then moving cursor over to the Settings Charm. The app sits in the Syst…

Hi! So, I decided to do a hands on video for you guys in case anyone hasn't installed the latest insider build of Windows 10. This build brings tons of little minor changes to Windows 10 Creators update that will be eventually forgotten as bigger features rolls out. So I guess we should enjoy 'em while w can, no? P.S. I think the updates to the registry are awesome!

Unable to disable receiving Insider Preview builds
by Elliot B.- 13 replies
- 11.2k views
I am currently a home user and on the Slow Ring. I wish to stop receiving Insider Preview builds. On the "Get Insider Preview builds" page, I get, "Your organisation manages Insider Preview builds via a telemetry Group Policy setting." The "Fix me" button and "Stop Insider Preview builds" link are greyed out. Any ideas?

I've left Insider
by Defcon- 6 replies
- 1.8k views
Been a member since the day it launched, and I've always run the latest MS previews/alphas/betas. But enough is enough. The Insider 'previews' are now nothing more than builds compiled and sent out to the public to act as testers. They don't seem to perform even the most basic of tests internally since its only the devs who are supposed to test code now. And I got tired of constantly having a huge image download and OS reinstall just to test minor fixes that may or may not work. I've submitted a bunch of feedback, I doubt anyone is even looking at that since the most starred issues get ignored anyway.

For the last two fast ring builds, the installation fails with vtss.sys causing a blue screen and the system rolls back to 14942.. Anyone else having the same issue? Log files generated by Powershell can be found here.

Not sure if I'm the only one, but It would be really nice if Red Stone 2 was just a good old fashion service pack in which all it did was just fix bugs. That old saying 99 little bugs in the code, 99 little bugs. Take one down patch it around, 117 little bugs in the code... in my opinion feels like Windows 10. So it a very large update which just fixed bugs sounds wonderful.

I receive this error when clicking Windows Update: "There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80240439)" I have tried leaving and rejoining the Insider Preview but things haven't fixed themselves. Installation is of a licensed Windows 10 Pro Anniversary build. Any ideas, Neowin?

Removal of Control Panel continues in 14942
by nekrosoft13- 20 replies

Build 14942 is the first build where Microsoft removed the control panel from Windows+X shortcut list. Everyone knows that they want to kill control panel and replace it with the crappy settings apps, and so the process begins...

Buy Windows 10 Pro for $2 in Microsoft store? 1 2 3
by +warwagon- 53 replies

I created an ISO from the install file and didn't enter a product key during installation. I then went to activate windows and there was an option to change product key or go to the store. So I went to the store and it said I could buy Windows 10 for $2 ... so for chuckles I put it on my credit card because it was only $2. I then went back it said it was successful and Windows 10 pro was now activated. Hmm... So I backed up the product key, I wonder if it will work on a clean install and activate after the RTM drops.

Weird system issue
by patseguin- 3 replies

I ran into this problem last night and can't figure it out. It's so odd that I'm not sure you guys can help, but I figured I'd try. Running the latest Windows 10 insider build since it came out and all has been fine. I was playing hearthstone last night and took a break to go have dinner. I came back and had a message to update to the latest version of Battle.net in order to continue playing. I clicked OK and waited a long time and nothing happened. I tried manually launching Hearthstone and I got a message about "starting Battle.net" that just stayed there forever. I uninstalled Battle.net and rebooted. I downloaded it again and ran th…

Unable to Update to Build 14936
by Stingingfork- 0 replies
- 1.8k views
At first the Windows Update page in Win 10 Settings gave me an Error Code 8007000e when I tried to search for windows updates for Win 10 Preview Build. I got that resolved by running a registry repairer and it said it was downloading updates for Build 14936 but when it downloads the updates it states: Windows 10 Insider Preview 14936 - Error 0x80070008 - I've tried rebooting the PC but it states that it was unable to apply updates. I went to try and recover to an earlier build it states that the files to go back to an earlier build have been removed - not sure if this happened with the last build replacement or not. Is there a problem with the Software Distribution folder…

Win10 14926 update borked my Virtualbox install :-(
by Dutchie64- 9 replies
- 2.5k views
Hi peeps! I tried to update my Win10 install on Virtualbox to the latest 14926 version, (Win10 was complaining about the date stamp on the current version) but that went horribly wrong. It is now stuck in a bootloop, where it tries to fix itself, but generating a bluescreen in the process. I get a reboot, and the same thing again. So the software version of rinse and repeat Looking at downloading the 14926, and repairing the current install somehow, but am looking for people who are testing Win10 in a Virtualbox as well, -and- have dealt with a borked update in the past. I'm trying to save some time on testing and such, and end up with nothing if it's maybe …

Trouble upgrading from 14372 to latest build
by keysteele- 0 replies
- 1.4k views
My one of laptops was having hardware issues, so it hasn't been online for a minute. I recently had it fixed , it's on build 14372 and I'm trying to update it now , it's failing , during install it says "returning to previous build". Now in update status I have 2 updates, Windows 10 IP 14931 and Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607. Will these conflict with each other? Could this be why it's failing? I want to update it before the current build expires which is Oct 1.

iso [Tutorial] How to Make ISOs for Windows Insider Builds
by Nazmus Shakib Khandaker- 1 reply
A lot of people want to know how to get ISOs for Windows 10 insider preview without going through fishy websites that might have extra code injected on them. The good news is you can make your own ISO files from the secure ESD files that Microsoft gives you though Windows update. I made a video to show you guys how it's done. Let me know if this is helpful. I know a lot of you want to install preview builds on multiple PCs without having to download gigabytes of files for each computer.

Idea (Mobile): Start Screen, Tile Brightness Slider
by floopydoodle- 0 replies
- 1.5k views
Basically, implement a tile brightness slider in the Start personalization settings, to allow tiles to be darker. In some cases the Start background would look better with darker tiles. The idea is to add a slider that fades the tile color from black to the selected accent color. When using transparency this could give a dramatic effect to the appearance of Start. Currently using similar accent color as the Start background makes it look washed out. See the mockup below. Please upvote this feedback! Unable to connect to any other computers on my network
by +unabatedshagie- 4 replies

Not sure whether I should have been posting this in the normal windows forum or this one but since I'm running the preview build of Windows 10 I picked this one. I'm unable to see either my Mac Mini or BananaPi in the network section of my Windows machine. The BananaPi is sharing files fine with samba, has been for a while. I've not touched the configuration on it for months and it was working. Same with the Mac. The only thing that has changed is I was on the normal build of Windows 10 and changed it to the preview build. I'm able to ping both devices fine. If I browse to their IP address in explorer I get an e…

It used to work fine but after some fast preview builds, something has gone wrong. I also tried doing so on another windows phone and the problem exists there too. Any idea how to resolve this?
