Windows 10, 14901 can't select to restore to earlier build or "Reset this PC"

With one tablet computer I have, If I go to Settings and then to Recovery, I can't do anything. "Reset this PC" has a gray bar under it, but nothing I can click. "Go back to an earlier build" has a gray bar and nothing I can click. "Advanced Startup" is the same, with a gray bar and nothing clickable. Are there command line / power shell options I can type in?

I am on one of the ealier insider build and stop upgrading for quite sometime. Now i want to move to the Official Windows 10 AE build. But both Windows update and Insider do not serve that build to me. How do upgrade to that without losing any of my current config and data?

last night, I updated to 14393.10 on the preview ring and things look nice. Nothing is ever perfect. But Windows 10 has surprised me thus far. with build 9926, I was quite pleased with the initial running of games and such. I did realize of course, this build was nowhere near close to the final production build. far from it. I had some initial issues with the 10,000 numbered builds and dropped off to win 8.1, my OEM OS until, about the low 12,000 builds. with the initial 12,000 builds, things seemed to shape up quite a bit. I was pleased with the polish of the base OS system, then with the the way games ran smoothly. I was pleased that MS took the feedback seriously …

I haven't used this particular Win10 machine in many months, so it's still on a very old (expired) Insider build, 11086, IIRC. I see the latest is 14133 or so, however, I've now tried twice and it I keep getting a BSOD when trying to upgrade the build. Both times, Windows Update seemingly downloads the build just fine, I reboot, it runs for maybe 20-30 minutes, always get to around 80% or so, and then... BSOD. I've never had this issue before, but then again, I used to use this machine a lot more frequently and never had anywhere near as high a build jump before. Is there anyway I can get onto the latest Insider build? Seems I'm stuck in a loop, as this build …

Windows 10 rs1 killed/removed Intel SST?
by nekrosoft13- 2 replies

Before installing the WIndows Insider Preview (RS1) on one of my PCs I had Intel Smart Sound Technology (Intel SST) driver instead of the normal High Definition Driver, which enabled Realtek High Definition (SST) . Now after the update, I can't get the Intel SST driver to work again, it simply will not function again, and some more advanced audio functions are gone.

Whenever there's a new insider build, the process is basically a full reinstall + migration of settings/apps/registry. It takes 1-2hrs for me and at the end you are left with cruft like windows.old, size increases in WinSxs, driver cache etc, and about 15GB in old windows install left around, the only way to reclaim that which most people won't do is to run DriveCleanup with advanced option. There should be a better way to do this, using inplace upgrades. The whole point of WinSxs and file versioning is to keep old versions around and make rollback possible, so why does a new build do a full reinstall? e.g. Linux can do this.

Hi guys. I'm on build 10586 and decided to join the insider program via the Updates section. I logged in with my account and now I have the "Get insider preview builds" title, my account under it and a "Get started" button. If I click on that button, nothing happens (well, it "loads" something for about 2 seconds and that's it). Obviously, the "Check for updates" option doesn't show anything. I searched for this a little bit and I found a "solution" that involves some registry editing. However, I have none of these keys in that registry section. Adding them manually resulted in an error in the Updates section, with a "Fix it" button that also doesn't do anything. …

windows 10 Terrible Windows 10 Anniversary Update bug causes my PCs to freeze all the time!
by Nazmus Shakib Khandaker- 5 replies

Okay, so I first installed Windows 10 Redstone 1 back in January. After installing, I realized that my PC randomly hangs and it will not respond to anything that I do. I click the start button, File Explorer, or anything else, but I get nothing in return. But after a couple of minutes, the PC unfreezes and everything I clicked pops up at once! Microsoft noted early on that they were making a lot of changes to the OneCore and the Windows Kernel. So I thought that was expected. But a couple of month later, I decided to try the Anniversary Update and, again, this freezing bug was not resolved. Finally, I thought I would better wait until near RTM. I installed Win…

Hi. I will try to be clear. I did a fresh install and this build does not allow me to uninstall default apps. Then I decided to install Forza Apex which is 18 GB. It merely shows a progress bar with no numbers like MBs downloaded or transfer rate. Have we degraded into so much brain dead state that all these nice stats are not considered important anymore? Then I am finding it difficult to backup and restore these 18 GB apps whenever I do a fresh Windows install. Has Microsoft covered us on that front? Hate to download 18 GB everytime. Some powershell script to install apps?

All apps in Anniversary Update is catastrophic. Please upvote feedback for solution to it.

The problem: - A lot of duplicates in this current design. - All apps being visible all the time defeats the purpose of pinning tiles. - Cluttered look. - No option to hide the All apps list. A solution: - Add a header for All apps and allow it to expand and collapse. - Increases the amount of Most used apps in the collapsed state. - Scrolling or swiping would reveal the All apps list below, thus the no click/tap design is preserved. I know there's a hack to get Dreamscene into 7 but i heard it also doesn't work very well. Are there any free alternatives? It's a cool feature to play videos on the desktop and i'm a little sad MS didn't keep it.

had to revert back to 14295

I ended up not being able to restart or shutdown my laptop after updating to 14316. I tried shutting off the fast boot and what not.. nothing. I expected this as its a fast ring build and problems exist. I'll just hold tight to my build until redtsone/anniversary update/build releases. I am encouraged by Ms's embracing the Bash to install Ubuntu in Windows. my kudos to MS.

build 14316 r1 160402-2217 64bit External programs with URL links no longer trigger the browser - any browser nor open links in browser already open. Also window focus sometimes goes awry with active windows hidden behind others.
