Frame accurate video trimming without re-encoding
by MS Bob 11- 2 replies

So what apps do Neowinians recommend for frame-accurate video trimming without re-encoding for various container formats or re-encode only that part of the video that is changed up to the nearest keyframe and the rest is smart encoded/smart rendered? For MPG, I use an app. (you are welcome to suggest more alternatives) For MOV and some MP4s, QuickTime does the job. (you are welcome to suggest more alternatives) For WMV, there's Windows Media File Editor. (you are welcome to suggest more alternatives) For MP4, there's Fame-Ring Smart Cutter. (you are welcome to suggest more alternatives) For AVI? Anyone know any app? VirtualDub can only cut on keyframes when doing Dir…

I am converting a video taken on my JVC Everio GZ-HD620 from 1080p to 720p using Windows Live Movie Maker. I believe the original video bitrate is around 22.7 Mbps (according to KMPlayer). Recently I was offered the job of shooting and putting together a music video for a local band, they had the concept in mind and myself along with a colleague filmed and directed the piece. All the editing has been done using the latest Final Cut Pro X and was surprised how quick and easy it was to use (as opposed to FCP7) Anyway, here is the link to check it out : Any feedback is welcome and i'll be happy to answer any questions. :)

8mm vidcap question
by Thunderbuck- 1 reply
- 2.5k views
I've got an archive of old 8mm tapes that I am very eager to digitize as best as possible, but I've run into some snags and I could use some input. When I met her, my (now) wife had an analog Hi8 Sony camcorder that she'd used for years. She used to work in the high Arctic, had traveled through Europe not long before she met me, and had shot considerable footage of both. We took video of our first vacation together in 1997, and went on to shoot a lot of tape on our children after they were born. That first camera gave up the ghost a few years ago. Concerned, and wanting to preserve the tapes for future digitizing, we bought a Sony DCR-TRV460 camcorder. This was one …

Video Rendering Issue
by He's Dead Jim- 1 reply

Hi this should be easy to answer with all the talent lurking on neo ha ha... I had a setting for rendering Sony Vegas videos to produce a HD *m2t type file which filled windows media player with widescreen, no borders at the sides. Now I've lost the settings I used to give this output what are they? In the rendering I use template "HDV 720-30p(*) The size I use is 1280 W and 720 H But this is wrong, as it doesnt fill the screen, Anyway I'd like to produce a HD widescreen with a reasonable file size as I'm producing a DVD comp Do you have any standards/formats which you use for such?

Fraps Video + Audacity Audio?
by Yorak- 8 replies
- 12.7k views
Hello everyone. I am trying to record some Minecraft videos that I plan on uploading to YouTube. I am recording the video at 720p with Fraps. Unfortunately, the audio it picks up from my microphone is not that great. There is a very tin-like sound to it. I was given a copy of Sony Vegas 11 from a friend who got it for free through his university (sweetness). I have never in my life done video editing of any sort. I do, however, compress the video using the x264 codec and VirtualDub. How can I take that .AVI file and sync it with the audio I record in Audacity? Is their a method to this? Also, seeing as recording 1 minute = 3 GB of hard drive space, should I get an externa…

Extracting TruHD stream from a BR
by kazuyette- 1 reply

As the title says I'm trying to extract the TruHD stream from a Blu-Ray I've ripped on my hard drive, Akira which is encoded in 24bits/192Khz, to re-encode them in DTS HDMA because of some stupid problem of downmixing between my PS3 and my amp. But I'm running into a problem : I'm using eac3to, everything seems to run fine appart from a warning stating that my files will exceed the 4Gb limit and I may run into some problems when trying to playing the resulting wavs file into some players. The catch is that the extracted files are running for 11 seconds when the movie runs for more than 2 hours and, of course, I've got no sound in those wav files. Does anyone knows where …

I have authored a DVD using Encore. I burned the .iso and it worked. I want to add pictures to this DVD, so they can put the DVD into their computer and cope/paste/edit the pictures as they want. I opened the .iso and added the two folders of pictures alongside the VIDEO_TS folder. I have since burned that and it no longer works in a DVD player. What do I need to do to get this to work, if it is even possible....

Game capture and fraps problems.
by sean l- 7 replies
- 5.1k views
Okay, so recently I've decided to get into the world of youtube, to post some of my PC gaming experiences. The problem I'm having is with the different resolutions and letterboxing on youtube. I first encountered a problem with fraps, causing frame rate lag whenever I would start to capture. Most people said this was a common problem, and to offset this by using the "Half-size" option in fraps. Because my resolution is 1920x1080, this brings the resolution down to 960x540. Is there a sequence preset I should be using in Premiere? All the ones I've tried cause letter boxing. There were a few I tried that stopped causing the letter boxing in Premiere, but still caused th…

I have found numerous guides explaining menu creation, etc. On YouTube but I haven't found any to tell me what setting and options to use once my DVD is complete and I'm ready to burn. Thanks, Han

Hi, I was just wondering what keyboard/midi controller you guys would recommend for a beginner? I have a little knowledge of using sound recording programs from classes I have taken in school but I am trying to start my own studio set up and am not sure what would be the best to get. I am looking to create music using mainly Propellerhead Reason right now. My budget for this right now is around $100-300.

Renaming converted DVD files

I'm using Handbrake to convert some of my old DVD's to mkv's before they go in the loft. I've ripped and encoded a number of disks of TV shows, but would like to know if there is an easier way to change the filename to accurately reflect the season number, title etc. IE: x-files.disk1-1.mkv to X Files - S1E01 - Pilot.mkv I've tried using a program called therenamer, but I don't seem to be getting anywhere - does anyone have any good advice? :)
