Encoders and Converters
by Wombatt- 7 replies

Hey Guys, I'm an Editor and have to wade though millions of types of encoded videos weekly... When I use individual clips, I have to convert them to a format that final cut, and/or After effects understands. I usually use Final Cut or Vegas to convert them, but this takes quite a bit of time, setting in and out points and matching the bitrates, and frame sizes. Also, some of the clips don't get encoded properly... So I was wondering... What do you guys use to encode/transcode video? I'm after something that's reliable, complexity doesn't really matter, nor does cost, nor does speed. But something that can handle a wide range…

Audio CD doesn't play after 1st Play
by roosevelt- 3 replies

Hi all, I am having a weird issue lately. The problem is, after I create an Audio CD and play in my car it plays just fine. However, after I stop playing, get it out and try playing it again it doesn't recognize the CD as an audio. And when I test it out in my PC, same thing happens. Burn it, play it once in both car/PC and it doesn't do it anymore 2nd, 3rd++ time around!

Outputting video as quick as possible
by lt8480- 3 replies
- 2.9k views
In a month or so I'll be working on a time limited project whereby I want to get the most out of "editing time" and minimise the processing time. The video itself doesn't need to be high quality, its only "concept" and nothing is final presentation. Its a rapid development process, quick editing... review... quick editing... review... etc.... (Especially as I suspect it will entirely be filmed on standard digital cameras - not professional video cameras by any means) I have access to the full Adobe Suite (CS4 presently) on a few computers, and pretty happy to dig into any of the programs. I use Photoshop/Indesign/Illustrator/Acrobat on a daily basis so the suite isn't …

Hey all, I am in the market for a pair of speakers for a basic home-studio setup I am building. I am not looking for pro-level audio monitors but I wouldnt mind a pair that sound fairly natural and are generally good. I have a budget of around ?150 GBP or $230 USD. As well as my audio work I will want to use them for general use too. Any help is much appreciated :)

okay, so i am trying to use virtualdub and it only ever uses 15% of my total cpu, since my cpu has 8 threads and its only using 1 thread i do have around 40 movies (avisynth scripts, actually) which each take around an hour on average to finish like that, i would really like to speed this up? i am thinking that there is a tool out there which batch-runs virtualdub files in parallel surely by now, people are already taking advantage of multi threaded computers with virtualdub??

Video rendering issue
by dbuizert- 0 replies

I have a weird issue/bug when I am done rendering a video. In the raw footage in SVPro9.0 I don't have a major picute on top of my original content, but when it is done rendering a major white square appear and I can't get rid of it. (See below) Anyone knows what it is? And it is only that part of the video. When it pops to the next picture at the bottom it is gone... So annoying grrrrr ---- UPDATE Nevermind there was a .psd glitch. I saved it as .png and the issue was gone.

Hi guys, I'm fairly new to the video editing scene, but I'd like to transfer a few home recordings to DVD as backup. With a recently recorded mini-DV tape, the camcorder unit - a JVC GR-D290AA - shows distortion similar to the following: That screen-shot is actually from Windows Media Player Classic of a DV transferred onto the PC. With playback on the camcorder unit itself, those horizontal distortions reflect the actual footage. Is there something wrong with the camcorder? Are there software tools to correct this? Update: I've noticed that if I fast-forward a bit on the camcorder, the distortions disappear for a period, upon which time they re-appear, but aren…

I have two clips next to each other, but the additive dissolve won't apply between the two clips (to crossfade them), it will only apply to the beginning of the second clip, which looks weird. Any ideas?

What video editing program would you recomend?
by wvcaudill2- 8 replies
- 3.1k views
Hello, I am looking for a video editing program to do some basic work. It needs to work with Windows 7 on a 64 bit system, with 4 gigs of ram and Intel core i3. The following features are a must: -Support all major filetypes. i.e. .mov, wmv, 3pg, mpeg, etc. -Easy clipping of imported videos/audio -Easily add audio overlay and adjust audio levels -Simple effects like fade in/out, etc. I would like to pay no more than $60. I used to use an Adobe program (Premiere Pro?), but I dont want to spend the money on a new version. Windows Live movie maker is out of the question because it does not support the filetypes I need. I tried Corel VideoStudio, but it kept giving …

Converting Audio/Video File to Audio Only File

I've got a file with both Audio and Video that I'd like to be able to convert into an audio only file. Are there any free programs out there that will do this? I don't really have a need to do this frequently so I'd rather not have to spend money for software I might never use again.

Just wondering if anyone here could recommend me some software that I could use to try and make dubstep tracks/remixes. Lately I have really wanted to experiment with this genre of music. Also are there any good guides/learning resources out there that you have used that would be worth taking a look at? Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone! I've been a member since 2001 and even though lately I've been a silent lurker, Neowin's pretty much been my daily routine for the last decade, haha. I recently became an entrant in a major remix competition on Indaba and wanted to get your feedback and support. It's a catchy, dark electro song performed by Irish artist Roisin Murphy called Mama's Place. You can take a listen directly on Indaba and vote for it if you like (I'm currently hovering at 30th out of 450 candidates!). To listen and vote, cruise on over to: http://bit.ly/darkpop My setup is Logic Pro 8, Intel iMac Core 2 Duo/OSX10.5, M-Audio KeyStudio, Audacity, Ozone Izotope. If yo…

mkv to mp4
by neoxphuse- 8 replies
- 4.1k views
Well, I'm going to need some of your experts help. I'm trying import a HD movie (mkv) format into mp4 container so I can put it in my Zune HD. Now the Zune specs say it's h264 with baseline profile and b frames. The audio spec is lc-aac. Which I have no idea what that means. I extracted the h264 file and ac3 audio file. I used foobar to convert the ac3 audio file into a 2channel aac file. I muxed the two using Yamb. Can't play it on the Zune software, still says unsupported, but I can play it on VLC. Any ideas what's going on?

PS3 video encoding

Can anyone offer any presets to encode video for PS3 usage? I want to connect a portable HDD to my PS3 and use it as a media hub/conduit. Any advice from people who have experience encoding video for PS3 playback would be appreciated. I'm using Handbrake to do the encoding but would like some advice with the settings rather than fumbling through it to see what combination looks best.

MTS files from my Canon HG21
by nubs- 3 replies
- 4.8k views
I recently purchased a Canon HG21 camera. To say the least I have been less than impressed with the video quality, perhaps its because I know nothing of how to take proper videos. So I accept that I suck... but once I take a video and copy it to my computer I am left with a huge *.mts file. Unfortunately these files are a pain in the ass because of their size so I want to convert them to a codec that is high quality but small in the file size. I have the profesional version of divx 7. The file converter is ok but what ends up happening is the file is converted to 720p rather than keeping the 1080p quality that the original file is in and sometimes there is no freakin soun…

noticable bluray quality difference
by daiv_- 16 replies
- 5.9k views
me and my friend are having a sort of argument, he seems to think that an untouched bluray disc looks noticablely better than an mkv down to about 10gb. my argument is that the high bitrate and size of bluray video is because they can, but it can be squashed down to 10gb or so with minimal impact, but he thinks im wrong and he's done a lot of comparisons and that he can see the difference instantly. any thoughts on this?
