Next Planet of the Apes Sequel Scheduled For 2017

The next installment of Fox's Planet of the Apes franchise will drop in 2017, the studio announced today.

The still-untitled follow-up to 2014's hit Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will be in theaters on July 14, 2017, to be exact.

The revived franchise has turned out to be one of Universal's biggest hits, with Lord of the Rings and Avengers: Age of Ultron's Andy Serkis working his motion-capture magic on a pair of movies that each grossed in the neighborhood of $200 million domestically.

There has been some speculation that Koba survived his apparently-fatal fall in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and could square off with Caesar in the next film.

Woody Harrelson is the Colonel, awesome.
