indospot Veteran Posted February 23, 2015 Veteran Share Posted February 23, 2015 I'm looking for something that'll allow me to record my desktop's screen, preferably with options for individual windows or a specific area. I see a lot of screen recording software on Neowin's software page, but I have no idea which works best. Thanks in advance!
0 LaP
I think both AMD and nVidia have recording software coming with the gfx drivers.
0 Skiver Veteran Posted February 23, 2015 Veteran Share Posted February 23, 2015 The only screen recording software I've used is by a company named Tech Smith and they have SnagIT which I think will do what you need (try the trial) or Camtasia which is a lot more feature rich which again has a trial and I'm pretty sure will do what you want but at more of a premium
0 indospot Veteran Posted February 23, 2015 Author Veteran Share Posted February 23, 2015 Well, I don't really trust AMD with anything. ?And I'd like a free tool. I know of Bandicam and ZR Screen recorder or something, and I know there's a couple others.

0 indospot Veteran Posted February 23, 2015 Author Veteran Share Posted February 23, 2015 Hm, I didn't like OBS a lot. I'll try XSplit.
0 Knife Party
+1 for Xsplit. fyi: the new version of Xsplit is a bit buggy, like very. The older version either 1.3 or 1.9 respectively is super stable and still feature complete. IMO and usage
0 indospot Veteran Posted February 23, 2015 Author Veteran Share Posted February 23, 2015 I tried the latest version but it doesn't work with Win10. Does anyone know if any older versions work?
0 Brandon H Supervisor Posted February 23, 2015 Supervisor Share Posted February 23, 2015 I tried the latest version but it doesn't work with Win10. Does anyone know if any older versions work? you're probably not going to find many that work with win10 atm due to compatibility issues w/ DirectX 12 & wddm 2.0 a few have different methods of recording but most make use of these
0 TAZMINATOR
I tried the latest version but it doesn't work with Win10. Does anyone know if any older versions work? Windows 10 is not final yet.. You might want to wait a bit longer before the apps will come out for Windows 10. If you need something right now, then you might go back to Windows 8 or older. 0 indospot Veteran Posted February 23, 2015 Author Veteran Share Posted February 23, 2015 I don't NEED it, I just wanted it. I had ManyCam, but I don't think it's very memory efficient, and the framerate of its recordings suck. I'll just use Bandicam for now.
0 webdev511
Camtasia is the first current product that comes to mind. You could also give Expression Encoder 4 Pro SP2 (which is free) a shot. Very rich for the price, but you have to pay if you want to save something as an mp4 as Microsoft Opt'd not to include an AVC encoding license. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=27870
0 Seahorsepip Veteran Posted February 24, 2015 Veteran Share Posted February 24, 2015 Depends on the use case, there is screen recording software specialised for gaming as example but there is also licecap which is able to record and save it as a gif image(very handy for posting on forums). 0 Freddieair
An old post here but still hope my suggestion is useful for other latecomers, this free screen capturing tool is a great help for me since I use it to record FIFA 15. Recording area could be altered according to my preference. And there is no watermark left when recording is finished.
0 Dude2012
I'd recommend Camtasia. It's easy to use and has a lot of useful features that can make your video more interesting and informative. It's my favourite
