Disconnect internet from the system, install it, reboot, then hook back up internet and get the additional updates

Or https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/windowsitpro/2016/05/17/simplifying-updates-for-windows-7-and-8-1/ install 2 updates and then run WU.

This is driving me absolutely freakin crazy.

Replaced a Samsung 840evo SSD with a 850pro, so had to reinstall Win7 on it yesterday. Have followed all the steps on all those sites, installed the prerequisites then the April big rollup package, first check for WindowsUpdates to get the rest, literally almost 24 hours later and was still checking. So did what one of those sites there said to do, manually installed the August 2016 cumulative update while offline, now back online and checking for updates again, for the past 3 hours. Nothing seems to fix this, and its driving me absolutely bonkers. Guess it'll just finish eventuallyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, before the end of the month would be nice.

Well it finally finished checking, at 2 am, 11 hours after I started the check for updates again at at 3pm. Wasn't even that many, 37 critical and important updates, 28 optionals.
