Acer unveils the Revo Base, a 'compact home entertainment hub' powered by Windows 10

Along with the world's thinnest laptop, and a monstrous new gaming notebook with a 21-inch curved display, Acer also unveiled a new device aimed at the living room.

"With digital content delivery becoming the norm," Acer's Jeff Lee said today, "a compact home entertainment hub offers users the convenience and storage space that laptops or tablets just can't offer." With that in mind, Acer is introducing the Revo Base.

The ultra-compact Windows 10 PC is just 5.3cm tall with a footprint of 14 x 14cm, but its tiny form factor still supports some pretty decent specs. The device will come with up to Intel Core i7 processors and 8GB of RAM, along with storage options of up to 256GB SSD or 2TB hard drive.

The device also features a range of connectivity options, including four USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, along with DisplayPort and HDMI, as well as 802.11ac wireless. It can even be placed out of sight thanks to its VESA-compatible mount.

Lee said that the device has been "designed as a dedicated entertainment, browsing and content-serving device that addresses the performance and expandability needs of today's consumers, while also taking into consideration the space constraints of modern living rooms."

But if you were thinking of getting the Revo Base for your living room, you've got a long wait ahead. The device will launch in Europe, the Middle East and Africa in the first quarter of 2017, priced at €429 EUR. It's not yet clear if the device will go on sale in North America or other regions.
