Razer announces new Blade Pro laptop, a thin and powerful desktop replacement

Razer has released a new version of the Blade Pro, the latest in its line of high-end gaming notebooks and a successor to the original Blade Pro released in 2013. They are marketing the Blade Pro as a portable desktop replacement and although the device is notably thin at only .88 inches, it does weigh 7.8 lbs.

The Blade Pro uses a 17.3-inch IGZO touchscreen with 4K (3480 x 2160) resolution that can cover 100% of Adobe’s RGB color space. The display also offers 170-degree viewing angles as well as support for NVIDIA's G-SYNC technology.

The Blade Pro features NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card with 5 GB of GDDR5X VRAM, a 2.6 GHz Intel-i7 quad-core 6700-HQ processor and 32 GB of DDR4 RAM. All storage options utilize PCIe M.2 SSDs with up to a 2TB capacity. Razer says that these specs exceed the minimum hardware requirements to power the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and OSVR HDK 2.

The Blade Pro is powered by a built-in 99Wh battery and a compact 250W power adapter. Razer explains the device’s thermal management, stating "the vapor chamber reduces heat resistance and hotspots by spreading heat quickly, evenly and efficiently. A custom fan design and dynamic heat exchanger are paired with the vapor chamber to maximize heat dissipation."

The device also features a low-profile and anti-ghosting mechanical keyboard with individually-lit keys powered by Razer Chroma and controlled by Razer's Synapse software. Other notable specs include three USB 3.0 ports, an SDXC card reader, a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port and support for HDMI 2.0 audio and video input.

The base model of the Blade Pro will retail for $3,699 from Razer's website with units shipping out later in November.
