With the update, the Android Pay option will appear on any site that supports either the Visa Checkout or MasterPass payment services. Users will have a choice of authentication methods as well, including support for fingerprint recognition.
Google is pushing this integration as an “easy and secure” payment method, explaining that it will prevent consumers from having to remember multiple accounts or passwords for various online vendors. Moreover, these added features will be available across all an individual’s mobile devices.
Google has made implementation for merchants and developers simple as well. In a blog post, it noted “Merchants who have enabled Visa Checkout or MasterPass on their sites will instantly benefit from these enhanced payment experiences as the buttons will update automatically." It additionally claims that vendors who add this support “can look forward to faster checkout times, fewer abandoned carts, higher conversions and increased sales.”
Unfortunately, users must wait a few months for these features, as Google says this integration will not come to Android Pay until sometime in early 2017.
