Samsung confirms Nougat will arrive on the Galaxy A (2016) smartphone series

In the past few days, Samsung has confirmed that its mid-range Galaxy A series of smartphones that were released this year will get the Android 7.0 Nougat update. Samsung didn’t say when it’ll push the update out to these devices but it could take its time due to the size of the Galaxy A line-up.

The Galaxy A line-up includes:

  • Galaxy A3
  • Galaxy A5
  • Galaxy A7
  • Galaxy A8
  • Galaxy A9
  • Galaxy A9 Pro

With so many devices to update, users could be waiting until mid-2017 before they even see their phones running Nougat. Additionally, the Galaxy A8 (2016) and A9 Pro launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow which means this upcoming Nougat update could be the first and last they both receive.

So far, Samsung has been priming its flagship devices including the Galaxy S7, S7 edge, Note 5, S6, S6 edge, and Tab S2 for Android 7.0. Owners of S7 devices can register to try out beta builds of Android 7.0, while Samsung is only carrying out internal testing on the other devices.

While Samsung drags its feet, adding its own custom features to its ROM, Google is preparing to update its Nexus devices to the even newer Android 7.1.1 release.
