Nintendo might have a solution for migrating previous purchases to the Switch

There has been a growing concern when it comes to purchasing digital titles from Nintendo's vast library as the company has never allowed transfers of that content from an older console to a newer one. Traditionally, it has left many diehard Nintendo fans to repurchase titles over and over again, each time they migrate to a newly released console. With the newly announced Switch and a new online platform, could Nintendo finally offer a solution?

Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aimé had this to say when questioned by Wired about repurchasing titles with a discount on the Switch:

"What I would say first is, we recognize that some of our most passionate fans have spent quite a bit, whether it’s with Virtual Console on Wii or Wii U, and we recognize that consumers are rightly concerned about moving to Nintendo Switch without backward compatibility. My comment is: Stay tuned, we understand the concern, more information to come.

There’s 40-some odd days between now and launch. There are more details to come. And at that point we’ll be able to define all of those various details of that online experience."

Although this doesn't give us any clues as to what might occur, it at least leaves some room for change to arrive in how the firm handles digital title purchases.

The Nintendo Switch will arrive in stores on March 3. If you'd like to get your hands on it early, you can attend a tour that is currently underway, making stops all across North America.
