A woman who didn't get the service she expected from a T-Mobile store in Florida later smashed her car into the store, causing injuries to staff and tens of thousands of dollars' worth of damage.
26-year-old Shinobia Montoria Wright visited the store in Palm Springs on Wednesday, requesting a replacement for her iPhone, which had been become damaged with a crack in its screen. Store staff told her that she would have to pay for a replacement, although - according to an arrest report - Wright insisted that she had insurance for her device.
As the Palm Beach Post reports, the manager of the store told police that the accused woman did not "appear right", and claimed that she seemed to be under the influence of an unknown substance.
Wright is accused of having returned to the store the following day, although rather than walking in through the door, she allegedly drove her Nissan Armada SUV through the front of the store. An employee suffered a knee injury when a display case was knocked over onto him by the impact of the vehicle, and was subsequently treated in hospital.
According to witnesses, Wright then got out of her car and smashed glass displays in the store with a squeegee. Another employee was injured when he attempted to stop her from entering a staff-only area of the store; Wright allegedly struck the man on the neck with her hands, leaving a "visible injury".
Wright is now facing charges of aggravated battery, battery, burglary, criminal mischief over $1,000, and reckless driving. Police estimated that over $30,000 worth of damage had been caused, and the destruction has resulted in the store being declared unsafe by city officials.
Wright was hospitalized for injuries to her arms during the impact, as well as undergoing a mental health evaluation. Police said that there was no indication that either alcohol or drugs had been involved in the incident.
Before arriving at the hospital, Wright told police that she was having a "bad day".
Last year, a man received a suspended jail sentence, and was fined just over €17,500 (around $19,000), after going on a destructive rampage at an Apple Store in France, following a disagreement with store staff over a problem with his iPhone.
