If you're an Xbox Insider, you're about to get your first look at the Creators Update that will be launching to the public later this year. Microsoft's Larry Hryb and Scott Henson from the Xbox engineering team gave a brief overview of what's coming with the update.
For its debut, the team focused on optimizing performance and making things easier to access. For example, the new features in the guide will be accessible with the click of a button and will allow gamers to instantly access most commonly used features like the Store, recent apps, audio controls and more. Insiders will also have access to achievements, DVR and live streaming features.
Those that are interested in capturing their gameplay will be happy to know that options to start recording will be just a button-press away. Henson did mention that the streaming and DVR improvements wouldn't be available immediately, but will be rolling out over the next couple of weeks.
In order to improve the experience during updates, Microsoft has made it more clear when and how the console will update by providing detailed status screens prior and during an update. This will go a long way in preventing unwanted restarts and interrupted game play sessions.
Microsoft has also made improvements in the Ease of Access area by most notably including a feature called Copilot. Copilot will allow two controllers to act as one, allowing for more flexibility when it comes to controlling a game. This is a feature that's independent of a game and handled by the Xbox, meaning there won't be title restrictions.
The preview for Xbox Insiders will be rolling out starting today, but will be released in waves over the coming weeks. For those not participating in the Insider Program, the Creators Update will arrive sometime in the Spring.
