+Mirumir Subscriber¹ Posted February 25, 2017 Subscriber¹ Share Posted February 25, 2017 Quote MSNBC Anchor: "Our Job" Is To "Control Exactly What People Think" During a lively discussion centered on fears that President Trump is "trying to undermine the media," MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski let slip the awesome unspoken truth that the media's "job" is to "actually control exactly what people think." SCARBOROUGH: "Exactly. That is exactly what I hear. What Yamiche said is what I hear from all the Trump supporters that I talk to who were Trump voters and are still Trump supporters. They go, 'Yeah you guys are going crazy. He's doing -- what are you so surprised about? He is doing exactly what he said he is going to do.'" BRZEZINSKI: "Well, I think that the dangerous, you know, edges here are that he is trying to undermine the media and trying to make up his own facts. And it could be that while unemployment and the economy worsens, he could have undermined the messaging so much that he can actually control exactly what people think. And that, that is our job." Fully agree, only if You cut the sentence before ..."and that is our job" it is about Trump. Emn1ty
It's funny how we can garner so much meaning from a few words... words that likely weren't meant to imply anything at all. Jim K 1 Share

Sometimes a few words is all that's needed. The Dems have been telling the public that they've fixed the economy and everything was improving in Obama's second term. That's not true. Now that Trump is in charge, they are going to blame the worsening economic situation on him as if he's inherited the country in a very good shape. They've planted a seed which they are going be exploiting.

Jim K Global Moderator Posted February 28, 2017 Global Moderator Share Posted February 28, 2017 9 minutes ago, Mirumir said: Probably should have added context to Bush's quote. Quote Asked if he agreed with Trump’s pronouncement that the news media is "the enemy of the people," Bush was even more direct in his criticism of the new president. "I consider the media to be indispensable to democracy. We need the media to hold people like me to account," he said. "Power can be very addictive and it can be corrosive, and it’s important for the media to call to account people who abuse their power." Bush added that while in office he’d pushed Russian President Vladimir Putin to accept a free press and that "it’s kind of hard to tell others to have a independent free press when we’re not willing to have one ourselves. Bloomberg ...so, I'm not entirely sure what is about what he said? Unless you disagree that "the media to be indispensable to democracy" and "it’s important for the media to call to account people who abuse their power" ... and it is hard to tell others to have free press when our own executive branch is viciously attacking it. /shrug Mr. Gibs and MightyJordan 2 Share
trag3dy
I don't really care for CNN and I've seen this clip circulating but it always ends immediately after the lady says "that is our job" and I feel like there is some very important context that is being cut out. I also think a lot of mainstream news sources take stuff completely out of context to push their naratives (from both sides of the political spectrum) so we shouldn't play their game and do the same thing just say "I got you!". Tuskd
Talking generally, I agree that media does have a say on what information we receive and thus they could indirectly control what we think about. With the current advances in technology, news/hoaxes spread instantaneously and has the ability to flood over actual credible info. There is always bias and everything should be taken with a grain of salt. But what I feel is that due to the presence of multiple sources of information, we can analyse different perspectives of the same information and form our own opinion. As long all forms of media outlets don't join hands to spread an agenda, nobody can control what we think and how we think. But it all boils down to what a person wishes to intake. We should do some hunting or else we fall into the trap of a single source's perception.

Andre S. Veteran Posted March 3, 2017 Veteran Share Posted March 3, 2017 Well given the other announcer started talking over her when she was about to say "that is our job", it's possible she just didn't finish the sentence and would have added something like "that is our job to denounce these dangerous tendencies" or such. But it certainly sounds like she's actually saying it's the media's job to control what people think.
DeaconFrost88
I'm curious if you get TrumpPoints for every insane right-wing conspiracy link you post, redeemable for made-in-China Trump swag? You can sit and bash the Dems all you want, but given the way the country has gone since the elections, when the Reps have been in charge...you have absolutely no ground to stand on. Your party is so much of a joke, they make the Dems look capable and rational. HellboundIRL 1 Share
