Jim K Global Moderator Posted February 26, 2017 Global Moderator Share Posted February 26, 2017 Quote "It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery,” a family representative said in a statement. “A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.” The Texas native, who was nominated for an Emmy for his work in the TV mini-series Hatfields and McCoys, began acting in the 1970s. His earliest acting credits include minor roles in blockbusters such as Terminator (1984) and Aliens (1986). Paxton’s fame rose in the 1990s thanks to roles such as Morgan Earp in Tombstone (1993), Fred Haise in Apollo 13 (1995), the lead role in the 1996 hit Twister and as treasure hunter Brock Lovett in Titanic (1997). /snip More at People

LOC Veteran Posted February 26, 2017 Veteran Share Posted February 26, 2017 RIP Bill Paxton. ThaCrip
Just shows you how fragile people are as they are here in good health one minute and gone the next. it's one of those unexpected things as he seemed to be in good enough health, and mostly was, but things took a turn for the worse after surgery from what i have read. RIP. but anyways, ill always remember him for Twister (1996) as when i think of him that's the movie that comes to mind the most and he's a clear co-lead in that one to. but in terms of the movies he's appeared in that stand out the most for me, they are... 1.The Terminator (1984) - 8.5-9/10 (he's barely in this so i don't even know if i would really count this) 2.Twister (1996) - 7/10 3.Edge of Tomorrow (2014) 4.Tombstone (1993) there is more movies i like that Bill Paxton appeared in but those stand out from the pack as those four movies are amongst my favorite movies. my favorite movies = http://boxd.it/UkLa (which lists 199 movies (i have seen over 2,025+ total movies but only 199 of them are good enough to be considered a favorite)). Boo Berry
Twister is my all-time favorite movie (though, it's incredibly flawed and I could write a better, more accurate tornado movie, IMO). The soundtrack is also fantastic. Ahhh, take me back to 1996!

Ahhh, take me back to 1996! but what it's got going for it is it's FUN as you just don't really see blockbusters like this movie anymore as it's pretty much all super hero movies which while i like some of them, none of them are as enjoyable to watch as Twister. From what I've read and seen over the years - that wasn't a trick. Lance Henrickson literally did that to him. Yep. As someone who studied Meteorology (and astrophysics oy vey!) in College, seeing Twister was amazing. At the time, it made being a weather geek kinda cool to people. I know for a fact it got tons of people interested in the study of weather (and chasing storms). The fact that storm chasers in Tornado Alley USA yesterday, used GPS to spell out Bill Paxton's initials on a map - really poignant if you ask me. The video is sped up. Watch Apone and the other marines in the background and how quickly they "move". Quote According to Henriksen, Paxton had no idea he was going to be part of the “knife trick” scene until it came time to shoot it. Henriksen felt the scene needed something extra, so he and Cameron decided on set Bishop would hold Hudson’s hand down and perform the trick on him. Henriksen also remembers a long night of drinking after shooting this scene followed by a reshoot of the scene, as it looked too fake when they sped the footage up. He accidentally caught Paxton’s pinky with the knife on this reshoot. https://filmschoolrejects.com/36-things-we-learned-from-the-aliens-commentary-45fc526346e0#.fpzvj6lp6 He's probably still pretty quick to begin with though. Then it looked bad when it would be shown on small 90's TV's. Now with larger HD TV's being more commonplace Twister looks good again.
