American Airlines Investigates Video Showing SFO Altercation Between Flight Attendant, Passengers

Recommended Posts

Apparently this woman was allowed on board with a folding stroller but after seating an attendant took it, either accidentally or intentionally hitting the woman who was holding a baby.

Bad move; a woman holding a baby, both in tears, on your actions is gonna set people off - especially after the United incident.

Downhill from there as other passengers intervened, chivalry is not dead, a male airline employee came aboard and  made matters worse.

Now American is in full CYA mode.

American Airlines Investigates Video Showing SFO Altercation Between Flight Attendant, Passengers

Video posted online and receiving thousands of shares on social media appears to show the aftermath of an alleged incident involving an American Airlines flight attendant and passengers.

American Airlines spokesperson Leslie Scott said the flight attendant has been released temporarily while the company investigates the incident.

Another apparent flight attendant helped escort the male passenger to his seat and said the incident with the woman was an "accident."

We have seen the video and have already started an investigation to obtain the facts. What we see on this video does not reflect our values or how we care for our customers. We are deeply sorry for the pain we have caused this passenger and her family and to any other customers affected by the incident. We are making sure all of her family's needs are being met while she is in our care. After electing to take another flight, we are taking special care of her and her family and upgrading them to first class for the remainder of their international trip. The actions of our team member captured here do not appear to reflect patience or empathy, two values necessary for customer care. In short, we are disappointed by these actions. The American team member has been removed from duty while we immediately investigate this incident.

Sad for something like this to happen, accident or not.  The alleged victim did seem to continue on sobbing for longer than the incident warranted though.  IMO

If she was hit by the stroller why would she be at fault for causing the disturbance, she was reacting and may have possibly been in pain or scared for her child and herself.  And if you're married or not, would you just stand there if your spouse or someone was hit accidentally or otherwise and not speak up or offer assistance?

accidents happen...

stewardess: "opps I am sooo sorry mam, i didn't mean to bump you with your stroller"

crying girl: "oh no worries, sorry for not knowing you can't bring a stroller on board, I will know for next time, thank you for helping me with the stroller"

If the stewardess accidentally bumped the stroller into my wife, as long as it didn't hurt, who cares? Me - "Honey you ok? cool... stewardess, we won't bring the stroller next time, very sorry for the hassle, do you need any help taking it off the plane? Again, very sorry for this hassle." Act civilized and not like crazed maniacs and most things are a non-issue before then get even begin.

Since we don't actually know what happened or how hard she was hit (if at all) your little story is meaningless.

Cool that you can say you don't know too. Even if it didn't happen innocently like that, so what? Be the bigger person and make the issue go away. Why act all stupid? Does it help? Does it make the situation get better? Does it help the plane get off the ground faster? The world is overflowing with professional victims, I for one would be embarrassed to be one.

Mine wasn't a story.   So you seem to be assuming she a "professional victim".  Issues aren't always so easily resolved and trying to paint things in only black and white is silly.

What?

So ... you see absolutely nothing wrong with the American employee?  The "white knight" probably witnessed what happened which angered him ... who knows ... the incident may have angered anyone of us.  The other passenger (the lady...not the victim) seemed to be upset with what had happened as well.

From CNN ...

Quote

"From the video, it's unclear why the woman is distraught. Surain Adyanthaya, who posted the video to Facebook on Friday, said that before the footage, the flight attendant had "violently" taken the stroller, hitting the woman in the process and narrowly missing her baby."

Olivia Morgan was waiting to board when the incident happened, according to a report by CNN affiliate KTLA-TV in Los Angeles.

"The flight attendant wrestled the stroller away from the woman, who was sobbing, holding one baby with the second baby in a car seat on the ground next to her," Morgan told the TV station.

It was an avoidable accident ... he shouldn't have wrestled (or forcibly) removed the stroller causing it to strike her and almost the baby.

Anyway ...

American said it upgraded the woman to first class for the rest of her trip and the attendant has been "removed from duty" as it investigates.

At least they were quick to see the wrong ... the employee will probably soon be an ex-employee (though United will probably hire him) ... or at a minimum removed from customer contact as he obviously isn't able to cope with it.  At least American didn't blame the passenger unlike United.

I do not blame American for this incident ... it was the hot head employee.  We all have those days ... but you don't take it out on the customer.

changed it, i thought you were saying it happened the other way. Resolving issues ARE as easy as black and white when it comes to things like this. if its hard, I would hate to see her life.

Oh nevermind.  I forgot how fruitless it was to have a discussion with you, you're too black and white and inflexible.  Have a black/white nice day!

No. Nothing wrong. She had a job to do, told the girl what needed to happen and moved the stroller accidentally hitting the woman in the leg. Are you making the claim she did it on purpose?

Since you went with a "probably", I can too then. He "probably" thinks by coming to the girls crying aid that he may get her phone number. Sorry dude, you're not getting lucky.

yes it was avoidable, the girl shouldn't have brought her stroller on and said "oh no worries, sorry for not knowing you can't bring a stroller on board, I will know for next time, thank you for helping me with the stroller"

I never said/implied that.  Don't make up things.  That's doesn't solve anything, so get off the plane, now.

If you are not defending her, then I am wrong. Your words leads me to believe you are on her side. Objecting to my objection to her, leads one to think you are on her side by default.

No ... seeing that we only have a few witnesses (which have spoken about the incident) you are entirely blaming her.  Did he give her time to react to instructions ... or did he just forcibly grab the stroller striking her and almost hitting her baby.  Her reaction is completely understable (regardless of what led to it)... especially if it was a close call with her baby.  Even if she only got hit in the leg ... if it was the shin that would have hurt like a sob.

So....you still see nothing wrong with this employee's reaction?  Honestly, I'm more astounded by that than your other assumptions.

Witnesses are horrible. How many times have you seen a person doing something wrong who had many "witnesses" who claim they are innocent. By default, you should not believe witnesses at face value. It COULD have happened like witnesses have said. It would be interesting to here EVERYONE account of what happened to see how many agree. Airline personal are in charge on an airplane, do as they instruct as long as it is within the rules of the plane and allowed by law EVEN if you don't agree. It's akin to people complaining about police, resisting is NOT in your interest. Comply and deal with it later  through the proper channels when it is better to do so. So many people think they are above the rules and it is driving people in the service industry freaking crazy.

Witnesses are still a better source than people sitting behind their computer screen (talking about you and I).  You have at least two which say he struck her with the stroller and came close to hitting the baby.  You have the "white knight" which was obviously very upset with what he had witnessed.  You have the other female passenger who also appears upset with what she had saw (you can see her describe what happened to the captain/pilot around 1:15).

....and you still do not see anything wrong with the flight attendants actions/reaction?

Then I suggest rereading my remarks.  I am not defending her, I even remarked about the continued sobbing.  She had to two small children, one in a stroller and one in a carrier/car seat.  I was questioning your black/white stance about the incident even though the information available was limited.  Also when boarding with two small children, staff and crew will permit a collapsible stroller to be brought on board, I've seen that happen many times,  My sister-in-law used to have to do that and it was permissible.

I am not speaking about the reaction, i am speaking of the situation. The male stewardess that raised his voice and was willing to get physical is just as ridicules as the girl and the white night at that point. Stupidity snowballs as more people get involved.
