Destiny 2 will "put the lore in the game", won't use Grimoire Cards

Destiny 2's official gameplay footage dropped last week, and with it came a large assortment of information regarding the game. One piece of news revealed the game will not arrive on Steam, and will instead be a Battle.net exclusive title for PC, becoming the first non-Blizzard developed game to land on the platform.

Talking to Forbes, Bungie's World Lead, Steve Cotton, has stated that the previous game's highly disputed Grimoire Cards would not be making a return for Destiny 2, saying the studio wants to "put the lore in the game".

For those unaware, Grimoire Cards served as in-game collectible items in the original game, providing backstory and additional lore for players who sought it. However, unlike games where the information is provided via in-game audio logs or text documents, Bungie resorted to making the data available for players via external means.

The mechanic was one of the main points of concern for many players, as they would need to rely on the game's official website or its mobile app to learn more about the world.

Elaborating on the decision, Cotton went on to say this:

We want people to be able to find the lore. All the story is told through the Adventures, it's told through the characters in the world, it's told through the campaign and it's told through scannables you find throughout the world.

Many Destiny fans will surely be delighted to learn about this development, as they would no longer need another medium to experience what the game's storyline has to offer.

Destiny 2 is slated for launch on September 8 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with the PC version's release date up in the air for now.
