Gamers went wild earlier this week when Atari revealed the first official images of its new Ataribox, a retro-styled console that will offer classic games, as well as new gaming titles. Today, Atari announced its entry into the wearables market, with the unveiling of the Speakerhat.
Seriously.
Here's how Atari describes it:
The Atari Speakerhat is a baseball-style cap with high-fidelity stereo speakers and microphone that can connect instantly to any Bluetooth-enabled device.
Connect to any smartphone, tablet, personal computer to play any music or other media content, initiate or accept phone calls, receive voice commands, etc.
Atari says the Speakerhat "feels natural and normal to wear for longer periods of time", and it's already planning for future generations of the device. "The intent is to continuously improve on design and engineering, until the technology is completely invisible," it said.

As you would expect from a gaming company, the Speakerhat also offers a 'Multiplayer Mode':
Powered by Audiowear, the patented Speakerhat technology is a new listening experience, combined with Social Synchronous Broadcast technology, will allow multiple Speakerhat users to simultaneously listen to a single audio stream in perfect synchronization.
Atari is now looking for beta testers to put the Speakerhat through its paces. You can enter for a chance to win one of ten beta tester packs here, including the Speakerhat itself, along with an Atari t-shirt, 'Atari Flashback' game collection for PS4 or Xbox One, and the ability to take part in the beta program. The company says that the total value of the beta tester pack is around $300.
A limited edition Speakerhat, linked to the upcoming release of the new Blade Runner 2049 movie in October, will also launch this fall.
