Xiaomi unveils a new mid-range handset, the Mi 5X

As promised, Xiaomi has unveiled a new mid-range handset, the Mi 5X, at an event held in China today. The phone is the latest addition to the firm's Mi series and offers some pretty decent specs at an affordable price.

Sporting a design somewhat similar to iPhone 7 Plus, the phone features a 12MP dual-camera setup on the rear, with phase-detection auto-focus and dual-tone LED flash and a 5MP front-facing shooter. It offers a metallic unibody design with anti-fingerprint coating and is just 7.3mm thick.

Powered by a Snapdragon 625 chipset, the smartphone packs 4GB of RAM coupled with 64GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 256GB through a microSD card. It has a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) display with 2.5D technology, an Adreno 506 GPU and a 3,080mAh battery.

In terms of software, the handset runs on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box, with MIUI 9 on top of it, making it the first phone to support Xiaomi's latest ROM.

Moreover, the device comes with a standalone audio amplifier along with DHS Audio Calibration Algorithm for improved sound quality through headphones. It also includes USB Type-C connectivity and a fingerprint sensor on the back.

The Xiaomi Mi 5X will be available for purchase from August 1 in China, at the price of CNY 1,499 (roughly $222) and will come in Black, Pink, and Gold color options.
