AndyD
Server has been running just fine for over two years and of course when I'm traveling it's when it decides to fully crash. I haven't messed around with remotely controlling a server all that much so not sure what I can do. It started with my drive pool going offline. I decided to restart the server over remote desktop but then the server was stuck on please wait for system event notification service. After 10 mins or so, that message was no longer being displayed but I can no longer remote desktop into the server. I'm not sure if it's locked up or shut down. Is there anything I can do? I can ping the server successful ly but haven't tried anything else. Crisp 1 Share
sc302 Veteran Posted August 22, 2017 Veteran Share Posted August 22, 2017 If you have no other controls other than Remote Desktop and it is stuck in a shutdown state, the chances of you being able to remotely execute anything are slim to none. You can try a remote powershell or psexec shutdown command but the processes amthat would allow this are probably offline.

Im getting a friend to go power cycle the server for me. I'll have to see if I can handle this another way going forward. Maybe a wemo in between the power strip and wake on lan
xendrome
Invest in one of these - http://a.co/6kVP0as But you are going to need to setup the system to WOL or wake on power outage in BIOS once you use that device to reset the power outlet. It does much more then a Wemo will, like notification, scheduling, etc, has it's own IP/web interface.
