Cell phone will not show up on PC when plugged in via USB

Recommended Posts

I have an LG K10 and when I plug it into my desktop, windows does not recognize that it's there, it does not show up in the device manager either. I have searched and located LG mobile drivers for windows (huge PITA!) and have installed them, but still the phone is not detected. I have verified that the USB mode is set to MTP, so there's no reason I can find that the phone is not showing up. Anybody have any ideas?

I've got exactly the same problem with my Galaxy S7. Windows will not recognise it no matter what I do. Can't even see it in Odin. I've lost Fast charging too. I was told it is the battery knackered. Not sure how true that is.

I've all but given up on it now. I'm getting a different phone, not Samsung.

Did you by chance try this ...

  • Open 'Device Manager'
  • Select Portable Devices\{Cell Phone Here}
  • Right click 'Update Driver Software'
  • 'Browse my computer for driver software'
  • 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'
  • For this, I had to select something like: 'Show all hardware drivers'
  • Finally, select 'MTP USB Device'

Does not show up, even when showing hidden:

Odd thing I forgot to mention was that with the K7 it was working fine, it's the K10 that seems to be the issue.

Maybe that MTP USB Device ... update it and see what happens.  /shrug

Possibly, the drivers I have are in an .exe, so there would be no way to browse to them directly.

Yea, no idea.  Just the usually ... maybe try a different USB cable, double check the phone settings ... etc.

I'm thankfully that my S7 just works ... never had to tinker (unlike my old LG G2 and Win7).

Hopefully someone else will chime in with the correct solution. :)

Hate to say this, but this has happened to me  a couple of times, usually restarting my phone fixes that issue.

I've tried that, as well as downloading LG Bridge and LG PC Suite, both of which can not locate the device.

At the risk if asking a stupid question....

Have you tried using a different USB port?

I have a flash drive that no longer works in any of my front ports, despite the fact that everything else does work in those ports.

Yes, in fact I have a cable that is plugged into the rear ports, and I have tried a separate cable on the front ports.

Have you installed the LG USB Drivers? https://cloud.furycloud.tk/index.php/s/iBX5ILIUp6v8viA/download?path=%2F&files=LG-Mobile-Driver_v4.0.4.0.exe

Maybe download and install MetroPCS Up - https://cloud.furycloud.tk/index.php/s/iBX5ILIUp6v8viA/download?path=%2F&files=LGUP_MS330 METROPCS.msi

I would also use http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html and remove any previous USB drivers for the LG Phone and start over.

I have a newer version of the drivers, and nirsoft does not show any thing from LG installed, I uninstalled the LG drivers and then reinstalled them and it still does not show. Also the site that you linked for the downloads (furycloud) is not working at this time.

couple thoughts.

you say it's not even detected. do you not even get the 'device inserted' sound effect on windows? (its a good way to determine if data is being sent or just power)

to rule out the phone itself have you tried plugging into a different PC?

Is there anyone that has a computer you can try plugging your phone into? Just to rule out the phone itself? edit @Brandon H beat me to it.

Those files were the same from your previous thread, maybe you still have copies of them downloaded

OK, I have those still and in fact I just uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled using the newer version that I found. None of the LG utilities detect the phone, LGUP says LG USB driver installation is needed before starting LGUP. What is most annoying is that LG does not seem to have the USB drivers on their website, and all the Google searches point me to LG.com which simply tells me how to do an OTA update, which is not what I am looking for. Also I can not find any method for setting the USB mode to MTP except using the hidden developers menu, nowhere else on the phone is there a setting for USB mode.

hate to say it but it sounds like the port is going bad on the phone then causing data not to push :/

if you need to xfer files I can recommend AirDroid as a good alternative for xfering files over data/wifi

It is charging, which is a really good thing! I still have the K7 that I can use, and I am considering purchasing a Nexbit Robin phone.

I know this is a long shot, but by chance is the USB cord extremely old? I haven't seen them in FOREVER, but there were MicroUSB cables that charged only and did not have the data pins. Just throwing it out there.

It is possible however the cord I am using for the data, I have used on other phones successfully, so IDK, I'll try and find another cable and try it out.

I had the exact same issue with my PSP Vita. It would always charge but my PC could NEVER see it, not even in the device manager, drove me nuts. Then a few months later I looked inside the Vita port and there were 2 bent prongs. I straightened them out, and it's been working great ever since!

Interesting, I will look at it with a bright light and see if I can see any damage. The phone was given to my friends wife, who gave it to me, so it is used, I just don't know how old it really is.
