Hands on with the Fall Update for Xbox One

Yesterday, Microsoft released the Fall Update for the Xbox One family of consoles, before offering the Fall Creators Update for Windows PCs today. As usual, the company has packed a bunch of features into the update.

The most notable change in the Fall Update is the Fluent Design System elements. Fluent Design is Microsoft's new design language, which is meant to seamlessly translate across 2D and 3D environments. This includes layers of transparency, and you'll notice that when you select tiles on the Xbox One, they glow.

But there's also an entirely redesigned Dashboard experience. You can now use your controller's bumpers to toggle between menus in the Guide, as it now scrolls horizontally, instead of vertically. The Home screen now has Content Blocks, which allow you to give games, people, and services their own sections.

Along with all of that, you can now pin up to 40 tiles, and there are improvements to the Community section. And of course, the Xbox Store has now been rebranded to the Microsoft Store.
