Google begins rollout of new Calendar refresh

Google has announced that it is refreshing the web version of Google Calendar. The overhaul is inspired by the Calendar mobile application and uses a modern colour palette and a sleeker design. Additionally, it resizes to better fit your screen size and includes more features for enterprises to help teams schedule and prepare meetings.

Another change to the calendar includes the ability for G Suite admins to enter detailed information about their organisation’s meeting rooms. This allows employees to find out where scheduled events are located, how large the venue is, whether it has audio/video equipment, and whether it has wheelchair access. Employees will be able to book venues by hovering over a room name in Calendar and interacting with the hovercard.

Next up is day view, a feature that all Google users benefit from. Writing about this feature, Google says:

“Now you can view and manage calendars in separate columns. This makes it easier for employees who manage multiple calendars, like administrative assistants, to schedule meetings on behalf of their teams. Click “Day” view and select calendars you want to compare.”

The firm has also made it possible to spruce up your Calendar invites with rich formatting and hyperlinks. You can now link spreadsheets, documents, or presentations in your invite and have them open directly from the new Event Detail view.

If the new Calendar hasn’t already been enabled for you, head over to calendar.google.com and look at the top right hand corner for a button which allows you to upgrade to the new design.
