Amazon's new wind farm produces 1 million MWh

Amazon has announced Amazon Wind Farm Texas, its largest wind farm yet. The site is already up and running and supplying the energy grid with 1,000,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of clean energy every year. Together with its other wind and solar projects, the company provides the grid with enough energy to power 330,000 homes every year.

Kara Hurst, Amazon’s Worldwide Director of Sustainability, said:

“Investing in renewable energy is a win-win-win-win - it’s right for our customers, our communities, our business, and our planet. We now have 18 wind and solar projects across the U.S. with more than 35 projects to come. These are important steps toward reaching our long-term goal to power our global infrastructure using 100% renewable energy. We’d like to thank the leaders at [Lincoln Clean Energy (LCE)], the Scurry County community, and our partners across the country who are helping us continue to bring new renewable energy online.”

The Amazon Wind Farm Texas consists of more than 100 windmills which stand at over 90 metres tall and have a rotor span of around 120 metres, twice the wingspan of a Boeing 787. The Amazon Wind Farm Texas is built, owned and operated by LCE, a leading developer of solar projects across the United States.

Amazon, LCE, and the local community celebrated the launch with an onsite BBQ event. In order to further thank the community, Amazon will be donating $50,000 to the Snyder Education Foundation to provide student and teachers with STEM learning opportunities.
